Thanks to commenter Ziyad for alerting us to this pared-down French one-sheet for Julian Schnabel’s “Miral,” which will premiere next month at the Venice Film Festival. The film still has me (said in Tim Gunn tones) worried, but I rather like this — the expression on the face of Freida Pinto (essentially confirmed here as the film’s star, despite what her billing may imply) is ambiguous enough to counter an otherwise staid composition. Meanwhile, the naïve hand-painted lettering asserts artist-filmmaker Schnabel’s auteur identity, scarcely detectable in the film’s recent trailer.

I hope this turns out well… I think a lot rides on Pinto’s performance, who for me, was little more than just a pretty face in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. A very pretty face, yes. But an actress? Not quite.
P.S.- I like the poster. Especially the painted title.
I have no hope for this film after that horrendous trailer…I think it is going to be very disappointing.

Freida looks more like hispanic than indian.I have never seen even a single indian girl who look at least 1% as stunning as Ms.pinto
I find it funny how everyone in west consider pinto as great beauty but in india many won’t even consider her as avg.The kind of hatred she gets frm indian ppl and media is nothing short of brutality.In india if a girl is DARK they would be automatically considered as UGLY.India is a skin bleaching capital of world.Indians are surprised tat the dark skinned girl whom they consider as ugly/avg has become very successful in hollywood.

As an Indian myself, I have to apologize to you, Guy, for the way threads with Pinto always get hijacked by weird people yelling at each other about calling her ugly.
That said, the trailer didn’t do anything for me, but neither did the trailer for Diving Bell, so…who knows?
I was not fond of Slumdog Millionaire, but if Woody Allen and Julian Schnabel see something in her, I think she is up to the task.
Anyone who has been to india atleast once would know that its a fair skin obsessed country.So its surprising to see jealous crab mentality indians finding pinto ugly.
The trailer was awful but hopefully the movie won’t be bad.

Who cares what indian people think.They are just jealous because with one movie she has has become more popular than all these bollywood stars.Nobody outside of india knows or cares about shahrukh,ash or kareena.But everyone knows who is freida and everybody think she is beautiful.so they should all be jealous and envious of freida as she is in a bigger league.
What indians hate freida because of her dark skin?..that’s pretty bad.But she is the only attractive indian I have seen in UK.

Reading the commentaries is so funny. But the fact is that the poster is a photo of schoolgirl Freida Pinto sitting and the name of the movie painted. So, there’s little to talk, instead how beauty she is (yes, I wanna be part of the commentaries-style of this thread).

The billing is apparently misleading. Word from everyone who has seen the film is that Pinto is clearly the lead.

‘Hiam Abbass’ and I called her Hibbas, that is seriously and I mean seriously embarrassing for me !
But anyway I hope that Hiam Abbass gets some real recognition for her talent out of this movie and who knows Pinto may actually deliver.
This film looks boring.But im really looking forward to her next film with Tarsem singh(Immortals)
