the letter was a tad pathetic kris, wouldn’t you say? theres no good guy in this awards race it seems-the hurt locker is trying to drink AVATAR’s milk shake, how impolite
I’m not saying it wasn’t pathetic, I’m saying it shouldn’t have been media porn for 24 hours, and that rival publicists shouldn’t have been so craven as to see red.
It’s a faux pas, and it’s been handled. Next.
I don’t care whether the producer’s email was a big deal or not-it was still fucking hilarious.
I’m just relishing the general drama that’s been cooked up from all corners of God’s green earth this season.
Finally, things are INTERESTING.
Poor Chartier. He made a mistake, and now rival campaigners and pathetic Hurt Locker bashers on the internet are sharpening their pitchforks.
Then again, with a race THIS boring and predictable, I suppose a little fake controversy makes things interesting…
“the hurt locker is trying to drink AVATAR’s milk shake, how impolite”
Haha. I see what you did, there.
This whole thing is pretty funny. I love how faux grave rival publicists get at this point in the season, when they smell blood. Someone wrote the Academy to position The Hurt Locker as an underdog in need of support? SCANDAL. We have never heard such a narrative before, not ever! No film’s publicists or cast or crew has ever used such language before, especially not in emails addressed TO the Academy!
It is a pathetic letter, no doubt, but anyone who sees this a profound breach of etiquette that would no doubt tilt the race unfairly in THL’s direction need only read the damn thing to get a well-earned breather. It’s practically written all in caps with multiple exclamation points and spelling errors, and it reads like one giant run-on. (Which is understandable since, you know, its author is ESL.) In other words, it’s a funny letter, unlikely to do anything except get a chuckle or a groan from its intended reader, and the real goons are the ones who jumped on it as a late game-changer.
Sadly, though, once a team of idiots jumps, it becomes a factor even if the source is silly, and the story gets repeated (and repeated, and repeated) as a blow to THL. Kudos to you, Kris, and to Wells, for doing your part to deflate it.
I like Landau’s response. Just the right amount of levelheadedness (humor) and context. I and it didn’t come off self-serving.
You can tell that they guy gets the situation for exactly what it actually is.
And, no, Sasha, doesn’t get it. She is pretty dumb when it comes to most issues and her saying “despite his analogy” shows that she actually bought it.
Chartier really wants to win but calling him “poor” seems wrong. He knew what he was doing.
If this was Harvey and pertained to Basterds, they’d put his head on a stake and place it on London Bridge. Double standards are getting pretty damn old.
He wrote a letter begging for votes. The letter itself wouldn’t have been bad had it been written by a third party supporter of the film, but coming from someone who would actually reap the benefits? Its pathetic.
You think “third party supporters of the film” aren’t studio solicited?
Hilarious.
By third party supporters I meant legitimate third party supporters. (which i thought was obvious)
My main point really was the first paragraph. Just think about all that would have happened if Harvey did this. I know damn well it wouldn’t stand.
