I’ve been waiting most of the morning someone other than TMZ to post a report. Here’ the LA Times. Anyway, what do you say about someone who dies at 32? All sadness. And the timing, just before the holidays, a week after SNL spoofed her out of nowhere. What do you say?

I’m just gonna go ahead and say this year really sucked in terms of people we lost. Even two weeks before the end, death gives us a kick one more time.
Just awful news. I’ve never been a huge fan of her, but I found her to be a consistently charming and lovely actress, and no one should die at such an young age.
I can’t help but be reminded of the rumors surrounding her health and her very low weight levels. What could she have put her body through to die from cardiac arrest at 32? Should I even be thinking about that?
Imagine what her husband – only married for two years – is going through right now. What a nightmare.
The SNL spoof clearly was an inside message.
When I saw her starring in a Lifetime TV movie a few months ago I said to myself, boy how her career has stumbled. Hollywood tried to make her another Reese Witherspoon as she starred in a bunch of run of the mill comedies with her name above the title. Sad! She certainly had a big personality and was appealing. That guy she married seems fishy to say the least. He’ll probably go down hard after this.

That’s real sad. She was so young.
it’s really sad :( I just saw about it on imdb.
it always hits personal with me, as a cardiac myself. I’m curious to know more about the cause…
so sad, I still remember her Clueless role…
I always thought she had a quality about her and that she deserved better roles than the ones she got. She was terrific in Girl, Interrupted, and I’m probably one of few who thought she was great in the otherwise average Don’t Say a Word. She tended to be better than the roles or the movies she starred in, but unfortunately she never got the break I think she deserved, and now she never will..
R.I.P.
aspect ratio really put it best. I thought after getting married that she was putting her life back together since I hadn’t heard about her for such a long time that I was hoping for the best. Unfortunately, I guess she still had a lot of demons.
What a shame. She did some fine work in 8 Mile and Sin City.
For those of you who missed her strong work in the excellent ensemble of The Dead Girl a couple of years ago, it’s available at Netflix.

With Murphy, Toni Collette, Piper Laurie, Giovanni Ribisi, Rose Byrne, James Franco, Mary Steenburgen, Bruce Davison, Mary Beth Hurt, Nick Searcy, Marcia Gay Harden, Kerry Washington and Josh Brolin.
God, I absolutely loved her. She was adorable, and had such a unique and winning personality amid many vacuous Hollywood stars. I always was hoping that she’d find some amazing project soon and rise above this slump.
Paul is right, The Dead Girl is awesome, and her work is stunning.
It’s just so tragic. Especially the rumors that had been surrounding her husband as being a major addict, I’m hoping that the autopsy doesn’t show this being the result of drug use.
She was one of those promising young actresses/actors (much like Brad Renfro), who I don’t feel ever got their proper due. It seemed like she was getting closer and closer, following Girl, Interrupted, Don’t Say a Word, and The Dead Girl. But as soon as I saw this post, I thought of Clueless:
“Why should I listen to you, anyway? You’re a virgin who can’t drive.”
“That was way harsh, Tai.”
Hopefully, AMPAS makes damn sure to include her in their montage. Didn’t they omit Adrienne Shelly, or was that another organization?
R.I.P. Tai!
Very sad and shocking. The time of year must make it twice as hard on the family. I don’t know if I can really add anything else.
James D., I think it was the Academy. And they omitted Brad Renfro, as well.
So true. I don’t want to shift pity my way, but I’d like to add that I know what she’s going through. My father died 18 years ago today–not only before Christmas, but 2 days after his birthday. I was only 5 though, so I was numb to the full impact until later on, but I sympathize and hope that her family is as unified in this mortifying time.
@Ryan: Yeah, that was rather shitty, especially considering how good Waitress is. Notable, tragic deaths like that (and Renfro’s) should’ve gotten in. Those 2 faces wouldn’t have taken up much time over the handful of character actors some couldn’t even 6-degrees-of-Kevin-Bacon with.
Also, holla at my fellow “Other” brother =).
I remember watching The Dead Girl and thought that that would be the role that would be the turning point in her career. Such a haunting performance–really fantastic.
I, too, thought she had a great presence on the screen, even amongst such duds like Just Married and Uptown Girls.
My thoughts and prayers go out to her family during this devastating time. What a terrible loss.
I loved her on King of the Hill. Such a lovely voice. It’s gonna be sad watching reruns of that show now.
I always felt sadness for her. She clearly had talent (“Clueless” for comedy, “Don’t Say a Word” for crazy, “Girl Interrupted” for drama, “Happy Feet” and her single “Faster Kill Pussycat” for singing – never saw “The Dead Girl” though, unfort) but just never really broke out after that initial phase and so it always felt as if she just faded away.
The SNL spoof wasn’t out of nowhere, it was because of the rumor that she got fired from a movie and it was covered during Weekend Update. And Abby Elliot did an excellent job with that, it was hilarious…it might not seem good now that this happened, but it was great a couple of weeks ago.
Brittany was just great and fun to watch. Clueless was very special for me, I grew up with that watching over and over again, she was a huge part of that and Girl Interrupted too.
She will be missed.
Wow this is shocking! I’m not very familiar with her work but she died at such a young age. This is very sad. My condolescences to her family and friends.
She really was a special actress, even if the last couple of years did’nt show it. From Clueless, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Don’t Say a Word, The Dead Girl and plenty more where her talent shines in every role, no matter how mediocre the movie.
Sad Day. R.I.P.

Very sad for her and she was sexy, talented and seemed very sweet and she could have gone on to greater things. Terrible loss and sad to see her go.
She was so, so sexy in Sin City.
RIP Brittany.
