Spike Lee hammers on the symbolism a little too much, but it’s a good movie otherwise, and Barry Pepper has never been better.

Kate Winslet worth £60 million to the UK, yet the poor love still couldn’t find a kind word said about here on incontention.com in ’08. :(

Lots of kind words for Winslet’s work in “Revolutionary Road” here, Patrick. It’s “The Reader” we weren’t crazy about.

Awesome choice by Mr. Forrest. I’ve long thought it to be the decade’s most under-rated film.

I loved 25th Hour. It might not make my Top Ten, but it has stayed with me since seeing it the first time all those years ago. The dream sequence in the end makes me cry every time, when the father talks about not having a drink in all those years.

    I miss that Spike Lee.

Oooh, I just purchased 25th Hour. Guess I should get around to seeing it soon.

A.O. Scott recently picked 25th Hour as the 9th best of the decade.

I have to revisit it, it is a good movie for sure, but a little too heavy-handed from what I remember, but that is a Spike Lee trademark I guess.

25th Hour is easily my favorite number 1 I’ve seen so far. (“City of God” is a great pick as well, Paste Magazine, but it doesn’t have the THIS IS OUR DECADE feeling 25th Hour does).

Mike: Where is Scott’s list? I missed it.

Kris, At the Movies is rolling out their top ten, one at a time each week. They are up to number 8.

Kris — A.O. Scott and Michael Phillps are revealing their picks for the decade one-by-one on At the Movies…

I believe Phillip picked “Gosford Park” at #9.

Oh, very cool. I don’t watch (obviously). And the fact that Scott picked Million Dollar Baby at #10 is…irritating.

best of the decade? not for me. best of its year and on the decade’s top 10? absolutely!

I think my favorite film of the decade will end up being “There Will Be Blood”, closely followed by “Wonder Boys” (which I watch about once every month – it’s so enjoyable) and “The Fountain”.

but I’m a sucker for PTA: “Magnolia” is probably my favorite film of the 90’s as well.

I don’t know if your site was around in late 2004, but what did you find irritating about M$B, Kris?

Both A.O.’s and Michael’s #10 choices are higher on my Best of the Decade list.

I just…thought it was a bad movie? Literally, all around, bad. I liked Freeman enough, though.
