The publicity stunt that is the Hollywood Film Awards came and went last night. Nearly all of the winners had been previously announced, but “Star Trek” took the Hollywood Film Award after being voted upon by the public at large, while “The White Ribbon” took the Hollywood World Award.
Here is the full slate of winners, the sounding gun of the Oscar season, maybe, or just a craven publicity grab. You be the judge. David Poland and Anne Thompson have certainly let their opinions be known.

Ok, NOW do people realize they don’t mean anything?
Maybe so. But ‘Star Trek’ is STILL my favorite movie of the year.
only original choice is a serious man for cinematography, which is a real possibility
Did they actually see “Amelia” before handing this award to Swank? Embarrassing.
Star Trek does remain popular though. If the dvds start selling through the roof next week we might really need to rethink it as a contender.
I dunno, AmericanRequiem, considering that they didn’t pander to the masses in any of the other categories, I’d say Star Trek for Best Picture is actually a pretty inspired choice.
And the ball gets rolling….
Is this the first confirmation that Colleen Atwood is indeed the costume designer for “Nine”?
I think STAR TREK ‘can’ be the best picture nomination that people don’t see coming. We’ll have to see.
/facepalm
