Campion’s ‘Peel’

Written by

Speaking of Jane Campion, New York Magazine was recently resourceful enough to dig up the director’s breakthrough short “Peel,” which won the Palme d’Or (in the short category, of course) at Cannes in 1986. It remains, for me, one of the finest things the director’s ever done. Check it out below if you’ve never seen it.

I recognize this is tacky, but Campion brings out the tactless effusion in me. I have a piece about wh and how much I adore Peel here.

Sharing good writing is never tacky, Nick.

Peel is why I own the Criterion Collection of Sweetie. It was a huge inspiration to me and remains so.

Shamefully, I’ve yet to watch Sweetie. Must do that soon.
