Unkind cut

Thanks to The Film Experience for sharing this wittily out-there potential Australian poster design for “Antichrist,” which is still awaiting approval. You don’t need to have seen the film to know how daring this is, though it’s still on the right side of subtle. I love it.

Nice artwork, but the blood coming out the middle of the scissors is a little much. I mean, really, how obvious is the symbolism there?

Blood-dripping scissors? Aren’t they really embracing that aspect of the film? Its not like that scene is the selling point of the movie. Shouldn’t they rather downplay that scene because otherwise people won’t take the movie seriously and it will get a similar response to what they got in Cannes.

Ah, but Red Wine, they WANT the response they got in Cannes. The same way the UK marketing worked the MOST!! SHOCKING!!! EVER!!!! angle.

I am so anxious for this film, even if my Scottish colleague called it misogynistic.

The movie is already playing here in Brazil and I have seen it twice. In my opinion it is the best movie of the year so far. No doubt. It is daring and Lars Von Trier is able to put images on screen that are just impossible to forget. People only talk about the sex and the mutilation, but the movie is much, much more than that. The actors do a terrific job. It´s painful to watch what the characters go through, but it is worth watching. The more I think about it, the more I like it.

If you just stick Dafoe and Gainsbourg’s big floating heads on a poster nobody will think twice about it, but a design like this will open people’s eyes. Sure, it’ll detract as many as it will attract (probably more, actually), but those who will be attracted will SEE it. They won’t to-and-fro about it, they’ll dump everything they’re doing and see it.

Robert, it’s hardly symbolism if it’s as glaringly obvious as this is. I don’t think the poster is claiming to be one thing while actually meaning another. It’s putting the films images out there for all to see.

I’m raring to see this down here in Australia – anyone know about a release date?

Excellent provocative image. The kind of thing we should be seeing more and more on movie posters.

I do think the font is a little too safe though, they should have gone with something a little edgier.

I’m already prepared to just look away from the screen when she uses the scissors. No thank you. LOL!
