When Russell Crowe was on Letterman the other night, it totally escaped me that the filming of Rilsey Scott’s “Robin Hood” was responsible for his new “Gladiator” hair do. Now we get our first official look at Crowe in character, courtesy of USA Today:

And here’s Crowe pitching “State of Play” in the aforementioned Letterman segment. There’s a quasi-interesting/humorous Helen Mirren story thrown in:

It’s been ages since his hair was that short! And I can’t remember the last time I heard him talk in his natural accent. In fact I feel like Russell just kinda dissapeared for a while. I know he was in Body of Lies last year but that was so forgettable that it hardly counts.
That thing about the land dagger and pork sword made me crack a smile. I’ve always loved the naughty side of Mirren. I hope her role in Love Ranch plays well off of that !
He looks so much better (and younger) with the cropped hair, as do a lot of actors (Farrell, Depp, etc).
I thought he was growing his hair out for this? That’s why it was long in State of Play. Oh well. I like the short hair much better. Crowe rules.
I ‘m really hoping and praying this movie doesn’t suck.
Please don’t suck. Please don’t suck. Please don’t suck. Please don’t suck. Please don’t suck. Please don’t suck. Please Please Please. Don’t. Suck.
Russel Crowe is still awesome. So are most of Scott’s historical films.
Lookin’ good Russ; good to see he lost the weight he pointlessly gained for “Body of Lies”
It’s kind of jarring to see him dressed like that. I’m going to echo Katie’s sentiments here.
The weight in Body of Lies and State of Play that Crowe put on was intergral to the character. Made total sense.
That said…he does look pretty sweet back to his Gladiator-style physique. Ridley and Russell never fuck around; I’m expecting something awesome with their new collaboration.

all the loose clothing hides his fat boday these daays
I feel like he’s been away too. I was glad to see him back in “State of Play” which I thought was a very solid movie. I think he’s at the age now where he needs to take care of his body and keep it in shape so he has the energy for his roles. I mean, Paul Newman never gained weight for a role as far as I know, yet he played a wide variety of characters and remained active until the end of his life. Who could be a better role model than Newman?
