Juno was released 2007. By her logic, Cody was probably trying to work around her references to Tom Crusie jumping on couches and Kanye’s telling George Bush he doesn’t care about black people.

I know everyone seems to hate Diablo Cody and I thought Juno was boring and overated but I think her tweets are funny and witty.

I also think that Juno was boring and overrated (my favourite part of that film was Jennifer Garner, and that’s probably because she didn’t speak in that horrid, precious lingo), but I agree that her writing is funny outside of her screenplays. Has anyone read her EW columns? I think they’re fantastic.
Yay, a fellow Garner fan. Best in show there by a mile — and robbed of an Oscar nod, in my opinion.
Strangely, my appreciation for Cody’s work in “Juno” has actually grown over time. I still find it suffocatingly overwritten in parts, but her narrative choices are really interesting. Hope she focuses on that in future rather than falling back on the crutch of her clever-clever dialogue.

I appreciated the fact that in Juno, there are no archetypes. Indeed, each character is an anti-archetype.
The innocent and victimized pregnant girl is replaced by a smart mouth and capable one. The stupid and brutal knocker upper becomes a super mild mannered Michael Cera, who may not even have wanted sex to begin with. The usual turbulent, fighting parents couldn’t possibly be more down to each and supportive than JK Simmons and Allison Janney. Bateman and Garner’s roles look like gender swaps. etc.
