Rourke. He made me cry. Several times during one viewing.

Mickey. A win for him would almost be like The Wrestler winning BP, since he was the heart and soul of the movie.

Sean Penn all the way

Sean Penn. But of course, Rourke will win on this site.

Gotta go with Rourke. It was between him and Langella. Both dominated the screen.
Penn is my favorite actor, but this might not even make his top 3 performances.
Robert Hamer
Count me in for Team Rourke.

Rourke is played out. It’s just Mickey playing Mickey. Yeah he cried a few times, cut his face (for real) and threw a couple tantrums, but that’s not Best Actor. Sean Penn played a real-life person and was thoroughly convincing and moving.
I’M CHUGGIN MILK! AND WRITING WITH A PENN!

Werewolf Bar Mitzvah…spooky, scary…
Boys becoming Men…Men becoming wolves…

Mickey is going to win, and Sean Penn deserves it, but I voted for Richard Jenkins, because his performance is my favorite, and the bars show that he has no representation, even here.
Whoever the other nine are, high five.

Sean Penn for “Milk,” the performance of 2008. A complete embodiment of soulful life, passionate protest, unique pragmatism, social awareness, and pure, unadulterated, unalienable humanity portrayed through the brilliant naturalism of an actor at his absolute best. There was no better performance, no more inspiring, acerbic, and absolute perfect immersion of character in 2008 – than Sean Penn in “Milk.”
Hopefully the Academy will get this one right.

My vote is for Sean Penn in “Milk”. This was the performance of a lifetime. It will be a real shame if he doesn’t get the award.
After Colin Farrell’s win at the Golden Globes I straight away went and bought a copy of In Bruges and I loved it!
Does anyone else agree that Colin Farrell should have been nominated? Either above Brad Pitt or maybe Richard Jenkins?
His performance was, to me, outstanding and worth a Oscar nomination.

In a perfect world, Rourke and Penn would tie. Both performances were excellent, and completely different compared to each other. I’ve seen both Milk and The Wrestler twice, and I can’t seem to come up with a legitimate reason to pick one over the other.
I have to agree with Liza. Penn’s performance this year was way better that Mystic River. I really liked that movie, but that scene where Penn finds out it is his daughter in the park was completely over-acted. That particular scene really made me not take his character as seriously.
But I guess if I had to pick, it would be Rourke. Milk was great, but the Harvey that Dustin Lance Black portrayed did, in the film, come off as a martyr who could do no wrong. Harvey Milk did fight for a noble cause against Proposition 6, but some of his other dealings, particularly with Dan White, were down right condescending and mean spirited. I’m talking about the real Harvey Milk, not Dustin Lance Black’s interpretation. All in all though, it would be nice to be surprised on Sunday if Milk took Best Picture/Director. Way more deserving than any of the other nominees in those categories.

That is not to say that what Dan White did is excusable. He committed murder and should have been in prison for the rest of his natural born life.

How has nobody singled out Frank Langella, his performance as Richard Nixon was the best of this year by far. Rourke and Penn were both great but none came close to Langella.
Alex
I’m with you Brabs. If only it could be nominated for Best Original Song.

Come on Rourke. The film is too good to not win any awards.

I must say, I’m surprised by the show of support for Mickey.
I really want Sean Penn to win the oscar for Milk. I thought it was a better performance, then the one he gave in Mystic River.
My vote goes for Richard Jenkins.

Richard Jenkins, hands down.
