Posted by · 11:29 am · January 8th, 2009

I’ll refrain from participating here, given that I’m in the BFCA membership, but have at it in the comments section below if you want some space to predict tonight’s winners.  I’ll offer up a separate post just before I take off for you guys to discuss the winners, since I won’t be here to comment.

Sure, we’re not hindered from doing so. I could tell you now actually, but I’d rather not do that. Then again, looking over my coverage, it’d be hard not to glean what my picks are…

I’d post predictions, except that mine are pretty muc hthe same as everyone else’s, because the BFCAs are predictable as hell, bexcause they just give everything to the frontrunners. no surprises, no ‘let’s be different’.

    Frontrunners.

Is there a reason why there’s so much unabashed love for Slumdog as the winner? I agree it’s a very good film, but as far as critics ratings go, TDK is the leader. I think I know the answer, but just throwing it out there…

J: I think TDK is actually a dark horse tonight, but I imagine you’ll see Slumdog or Wall-E win. While the critics loved TDK, it just hasn’t been getting as much precursor critic group love as Slumdog.

Whether TDK is the better film or not is irrelevant. Predicting what will win is something different from predicting what should win.

As for Button, I just don’t see enough love for it among the precursor groups, or among critics in general. I loved it personally, but alas.
