Alright, here’s the first in a string of contests this week, kicking things off with an opportunity to win a copy of “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: The Making of the Motion Picture,” a beautiful coffee table book with lovely images throughout in the vein of Taschen collectibles. Have a look at the Amazon page here. We’ve got two to give away.
I wracked my brain over the best way to go here. I didn’t want another boring caption contest, so I figured I’d get abstract. HAIKU CONTEST! Give us your best haiku poem on the perils of aging backwards in the comments section below. The two best haikus take the prizes. (And yes, multiple entries are acceptable.) Make sure you’re singed in with a valid email address so we can notify the winners swiftly, and stay tuned later this week for more contests and giveaways.
(FYI, haiku contest idea stolen outright from Sasha Stone and Awards Daily.)

O terrible curse!
My manhood shrinks not grows
Sex when old is bad
Only six syllables on that second line, Peter. Might wanna try again!
memories gone forvever
nothing lasts, what a shame that is
I wont remember
oops, that was wrong in not one, but TWO places!
heres one that atleast fits the bill with the syllables
no friends at the end
no reminiscing, just me
what a shame that is
aging backwards might
not be so bad if it meant
forgetting this film
The picture is done
What a sad thing, to star, star
In such a bad film
Goddam you Chad.
Okay my haikus are less “the perils” of aging backward, but more affirming the experience of it. Oh well. Maybe I’ll come up with a few more.
i. In life you go in
A different direction.
In death we all meet.
ii. Born old, dying young.
So different, so unique.
Very much human.
Born bald and naked
Covered in a mess of goo…
It ends the same way!
Here’s two more from me:
iii. To be born so old
Unable to love a girl
Lest be pedophile.
iv. Sad to watch kids
Playing outside, running free
While stuck in wheelchair.
Two different people,
Ever growing old or young.
What a shame that is.
Sadly my mind thinks
Less as the years go by, but
My body grows strong…
No 401k
When you would need it the most
Crave pacifier
Age, just a number
No matter when, Brad is still
Cute as a Button
a clock hand reversed,
Confined to life behind glass
Love-so close, so far
Casey Jones built time
For the son he lamented
He would build backwards
1. Age does not matter
If you are still young at heart
Then the world is yours
2. Age does not define
Whether forward or backward
Life is heart and mind
i.
Your body decayed
My memory has slipped away
Inevitable.
ii.
Like the waters that surge
our destruction assured
as time ticks backward.
Defying Nature’s Law
I wonder who is the mother
Could’ve been Virgin Mary
Serendipity
That we meet here at this time
Passing each other
Alzheimers has come
And all I can do is think
“But I have acne”
I don’t get the hate
What is wrong with you fuckers?
Better than Slumdog.
Broken face and hands
Your eyes, your wrinkles, your touch
Its gears, its numbers
As time passes by
We all wish we could go back
Does she feel the same?
———–
They worry about youth
For them youth is happiness
For me it’s a curse
————-
As I grow younger
I feel better and better
But memories fade
A wilted flower
Who still loves the youngest bee
When time goes tock tick
The hate is deserved
The screenplay is atrocious
Slumdog is alright
I liked the movie.
But the film was a bit long.
Slumdog is better.
Things I could have been
Lost in a pool of regret
Youth gone, and age found
oh what a great chance
to go back to the moment
and tell Aniston
What the fuck
is up with this film it
cannot possibly suck.
Okay now a serious one:
Kramer was lost
Cosmo was his name
His Book was a must
With death comes the jive
Direction is lost
Oh perilous life.
Next christmas day
‘t was Benjamin Button
Who came to stay.
In life we seek
despite reverse ways
Another peak
if I grow backwards
do I get to reclaim hours
lost at bad movies?
when time goes on
and the leaves fall
will i grow again
No teeth and diapers,
Then all of life! Then again:
Diapers and no teeth

All that CGI
To make Brad as hot as in
“Thelma and Louise.”

Daisy loved grandpa.
Then as grandma, loved a kid.
A fucking pervert.
You guys understand haikus are 5, 7, 5, right? Right?
growing young again
sounds like a wonderful thing
but its really the Pitts
I am no fine wine
You’ll hold this babe your hands
He won’t know your face
Will the IRS
Expect me to pay taxes
When puberty hits?
When does this contest end? I’m gonna give it a go.
Withering leaves fall
The green one darkened by each
Drops dew to recall
Dementia hit me
When I was only just, well…
Either six or eight
The wrinkled baby
Peculiar and special
Cries loudly near steps
He’s named Benjamin
And survives his first few years
Despite the bleak chance
He says, “I’m sevenâ€
Appears old and disheveled
But is young at heart
Queenie prays and hopes
Brings him to Saturday church
Screams, “Hallelujahâ€
Isolation grows
As Benjamin’s naïveté
Leads to shameful scold
This lonesome figure
Eased and calmed by innocence
Of gentle Daisy
Her lacquered blue eyes
Is what Benjamin recalls
Upon her return
Her porcelain skin
Glimmers like pearls in the night
Above a pale moon
The spotlight shines bright
As she takes flight on the stage
And breathes poignant gasp
She floats like petals
Blooming vibrant shades of red
Under veil of night
The ironic path
Of Benjamin growing young
As Daisy grows old
Differing notions
Of both lust and desire
Leading both astray
He starts to explore
Both the depths of Ms. Abbot
And aquatic seas
Their paths cross again
When a series of events
Leaves Daisy flightless
A visit from him
Causes sentimental tears
Of both love and hate
After few years pass
Apologetically
She returns in peace
They meet at midpoint
Enjoying a brief solace
Of their adulthood
He becomes fearful
Loses his faith in himself
Toward fatherhood
Benjamin departs
As Daisy starts to whittle
To Maturity
He later returns
Half the age of when last seen
To see his daughter
Met with Daisy’s scorn
She has mixed feelings toward
The man she once loved
After one last night
She goes her way, as does he
Until the phone call
The once young at heart
Is now only young at face
With mind of old man.
Daisy tries her best
To help the aging child
That was Benjamin
Despite her efforts
His mind deteriorates
Till he’s an infant
Held in Daisy’s arm
With one last familiar look
He breathes one last breath
(And a shorter one for kicks…)
Benjamin Button
Equals one part “Forrest Gump,â€
One part “Harold Crickâ€
oops… I meant, “below a pale moon”
Our paths conflict,
body and minds in reverse
this life out of sync
a few more:
My reputation
It grew up as I grew down
Now I’m just a joke
——————————
A curious case
Like nothing I’ve ever seen
what a poor fellow
——————————
Life has challenges
Yours will have more than others
That should not stop you
——————————
Box of chocolates
Life can be compared to those
Not when you grown down
——————————-
They look at me weird
I know I am but guess what
We all end up dead
Time flows in reverse
against all natural laws
oh what freak am I?
An old babe with specs?
He will need ‘Hooked on Phonics’.
So, send book to me!
The flow of time’s clock
An age-old illusion, turns
Life is not contained
i went off to sea
met daisy in the middle
got younger, alone
so wrinkled my skin
i cant wait for the ending
to become young again
jumbled memories
jagged edges like sharp glass
throbbing in my skull
so wrinkled my skin
i can’t wait for the ending
to grow young again
