Don’t go changin’

Typically Monday is “Off the Carpet” day, but I see absolutely zero reason to touch the charts this week.  The only races that are shaping up to be interesting are a couple of the performance fields, and the technical categories will be up in the air until we start hearing from the guilds (ADG kicks it off on Friday, ACE a week from today).

In the meantime, my predicted five Best Picture nominees have not changed in over a month.  Coincidentally (or fatefully) they are the same five films chalked up for nods by the PGA this morning, and most likely, the same films that will pop up Thursday when the DGA announces.

So, no column or chart update this week.

Is it just me, or is Ledger’s performance seriously over-hyped??? Can’t help but think that, if he hadn’t OD’d, the buzz would be on Downey…

No, the buzz was there long before he died. And that’s a fact.

Paulo: Nah, I don’t know. She needed a SAG nod to get over the hump. That really hurt, I think. Critical praise is one thing, but it doesn’t always translate to nominations.

It’ll be either Leo or Hawkins. They won’t nominate both. Unfortunately.

Oh and this is a wild prediction, but I could personally see Winslet winning the SAG in supporting for The Reader and getting a best actress nom for Reader instead of RR. Which would leave room for Tomei or Dewitt in supporting. Again, just a crazy thought…
