Jerry Lewis to receive humanitarian award at this year’s Oscars

It seems we have our first Oscar winner announcement for the year.  From the AP:

Jerry Lewis has never been nominated for an Oscar, but he’s going to get one anyway. The 82-year-old will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the Oscar ceremony in February.

The governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced their selection Wednesday. The Hersholt Award — an actual Oscar statuette — recognizes humanitarian efforts that have brought credit to the film industry.

Lewis should have been nominated for “The Nutty Professor” for playing an extension of both Dean and Jerry and again for “The King of Comedy” — as a director the man piopneered the use of monitors so all those directors who use video assist as a tool owe him a debt of thanks.
