I’m not allowed to get into my thoughts on “Revolutionary Road” in any real detail yet, but we’ve got a real Best Picture contender on our hands, one driven to that status by a dynamic blend of powerhouse performances that won’t likely be forgotten any time soon.
Leonardo DiCaprio, joined on stage right now with director Sam Mendes and the cast for a post-screening Q&A (in front of a massive SAG audience that appears to have enjoyed the film), just described his response to the material as like being “a fly on the wall…I felt embarrassed.” I think that comment sums up both the power of Richard Yates’s incredibly truthful novel and the apparent success with which it has (finally) been brought to the screen.
More next week.

UGH. Why are you so lucky? It better be December 26 soon.
Great to hear this. You’ve managed to get me more excited about the film. What SE said above.
is there ANYTHING you can give us? kathy bates maybe? (maybe cause i am so confident in dicaprio, winslet, and shannon) i wanna know if it can get 4 acting noms…
How’s the excellent Michael Shannon? Give us at least that! ;)
Jesus, I just re-read the book last week, and I could not be ANY more excited now. I’m trying my best to mooch off friends, or anyone who gets invited to these things, to somehow see this in the next couple weeks.
Whew!
Good! Figured as much, but now I can’t wait.
Very, very glad to hear this!
Can’t wait to see it myself.
Matt, I saw it as well and the answer to your question is maybe. But Kathy Bates won’t be one of them. The leads were, of course, great, but I loved Shep. More later as well.
P.S. I think Doubt has a better shot at 4 but that isn’t to take anything away from RR.
Kris : thanks, can just tell us if you felt that the others at the screening felt the same way than you ?
sorry didn’t see the “in front of a massive SAG audience that appears to have enjoyed the film” comment. My bad.

What would you consider the strengths of the film ?
Who’s the lead on distribution, marketing and awards campaigning…Paramount, Paramount Vantage, and/or DreamWorks? Conflict with Benjamin Button? Stability on the Paramount lot? Sounds like the movie, performances, and below the line are too strong for even that management to mess it up!
cannot wait!!! ugh.
How was Winslet, in terms of performance, how does it stack up against work like Eternal Sunshine or Holy Smoke ? How good is good ?
I knew it.
Thank God. Another write-off would have been too miserable to take.
If you thought so highly of it and went in with the monumental expectations set up for it since Leo and Kate were announced as the lead actor…could this be our Best Picture?
“actors”, rather…
streamfreshmeals: Vantage is handling the campaign.
Good to hear…Vantage has one of the best awards teams, agencies, and consultants in the business. The less paramount executives mess with it, the better!
Excellent to hear some good news – had heard from an insider that the film was destined to be a classic but with so much disappointment this year…thank you Mendes, Di Caprio and Winslet…
Thanks to Spielberg, Snider, Birch, Sullivan, etc., and no thanks to Grey, Lesher, etc.
Apparently also well liked by Sasha Stone at Awards Daily, although like Kris, she can’t go into any real details yet.
steam: Any reason you’re name-dropping all over the site lately? A bit much…
Kris Tap: No reason…pretty public figures I’d say for the entertainment industry…I see Mendes, DiCaprio, Winslet, Shannon, Bates, Yates name-dropped more often…thought this site/blog was a public open forum for any comments…if you know these people and Ive offended…my apologies. You can also just check track records over the years…
Have a great day KT and I look forward to your review once the embargo is lifted!
[…] it’s good news. Unlike Kris, I haven’t had the privilege of seeing this yet, but it sure as hell sounds like an […]
[…] And speaking of those heavyweights, Kris ran hot on “Revolutionary Road,” but cool on “Australia” […]
Can you give away more details yet, Kris?
How great was Leonardo DiCaprio?
