In a week in which there were more important things going on than the movies (an outlandish notion, I know), these were nevertheless some of the highlights:
• Several takes from the AFI Fest, including disappointment in “Doubt” …
• … but hearty cheers for “The Wrestler.”
• We caught up (twice) with the thoroughly delightful Danny Boyle, both in London and in L.A.
• Meanwhile, Dennis Hopper was also feeling chatty.
• In the wake of the reprehensible passing of Proposition 8, we wondered if “Milk” could have made a difference.
• We bade farewell to Mr. Michael Crichton. Rest in peace.
• “Australia” got a new trailer and a new poster. Smashing. Can we see it now, pretty please?
• Listing the greatest English-language directors at work today. Debate, as ever, was heated.
• Tech Support surveyed the horses in the Best Film Editing race.
• Oh, you might have heard that the United States has a new president. The right one, at that.

I think the right one is all relative to one’s thinking.
On top of that, it’s very early to really say how right Mr. Obama will end up being. Let’s let him become president and put some of his policies though Congress and the like before we start judging him – good or bad – shall we?
And as I’ve said here before – I’m very optimistic about what Senator Obama can achieve, even if I did think Senator McCain was the right (not necessarily better, mind you) man for the job.
If anything, Senator Obama has given a new found hope to us. I feel now that anything is possible and his victory on Election Day has reinvigorated my belief that some one can come from nothing and accomplish their dreams. Thank you for that President-elect Obama.
~~By and by, did anyone think he was rather funny at his news briefing Friday? It’s nice that with the scrutiny of the campaign behind him that he can really show his sense of humor and personality.
No offence meant to your beliefs, Mr 9 — which are graciously expressed. This is, to some extent, an opinion site, and I expressed mine.
