By the way, as noted by some commenters already, last night’s SNL proved Mark Wahlberg to be a stand-up guy. Maybe my sarcasm radar was suffering last week, but I was worried there for a second. It was slightly awkward, but I think that’s because they were a bit rushed to film something. Regardless, it worked, and I laughed my ass off. Plus, a number of my favorite sketches: Surprise Sue, MacGruber, Jean K. Jean, etc. And Palin really worked. Best first half of the show in a long time.

I can’t help but think they really underused Brolin last night, but it was a pretty decent show.
I can’t decide if Palin is that stupid or has a sense of humor. And I LOVE that Fey avoided her as much as possible.
Palin should have done the rap. What a fartface.
The always changing and usually topical lyrics to “MacGruber” are gold.
One of the problems with SNL is that the format creates this weird middle section where you forget all about the host. Digital short, first musical number, Weekend Update… with commercials (fake and real), that’s about a half-hour. 40 minutes if Tim Calhoun makes an appearance. Good for resting the host, not so much for getting the face time.
The Emmys and Oscars have an analogous problem, where the main awards are bookends to a seemingly unrelated and time-consuming middle.
