    Psyched.

Some ones I hope to see:
    – either Batman standing amongst the rubble OR Joker hanging right-side-up OR the closing in on the Joker’s mask OR the opening shot from The Dark Knight
    – either Randy walking through the back of the supermarket out to the deli OR the final shot from The Wrestler
    – April smoking at the tree from Revolutionary Road
    – either Vicky and Cristina walking past the sparklers OR the first shot of Juan Antonio in Vicky Cristina Barcelona
    – any of the underrated camera work (especially in the action sequences) from Pineapple Express

The only singular shot that really sticks out in my mind came during the penultimate scene of “Revolutionary Road,” with Winslet’s April Wheeler standing in her living room, a stark red stain on her pastel housedress, poised before the picture window that surveys the idyllic neighborhood. Unforgetable.

    • Daisy’s private performance for Benjamin–the moment when she fully extends her leg

    • The shot in Revolutionary Road juxtaposing the moving train on the left with all the men in their fedoras on the right

(just because they’re obvious doesn’t mean they’re not beautiful or interesting)

Oh… and would going back to previous years be out of the question? (it would be easier to get a snapshot of those movies because many of them are already out on DVD)

Isn’t the opening shot of the dark knight just a skyscraper?

The shot of the wild horses passing through the front garden in “Australia” still strikes me as my favourite shot of the year, but I think there were other great shots in movies like “Paranoid Park”, “Slumdog Millionaire” and “Up the Yangtze” especially. The latter deserves to be seen, it’s smoggy and muggy cinematography was just great.

I’m really looking forward to this, I loved last year’s. I’d agree that the list must include Daisy’s dance from Button, incredible image there. Another image that has stuck in my mind is from Slumdog, when the cops are chasing the kids and at one point we get an extreme long shot looking straight down on the slum. I was underwhelmed by the film as a whole, but that image was very powerful and in a way, beautiful.
This has not been as good a year for cinematography as the smorgasbord we had last year, but some great shots regardless.

LOL, I could name a thousand scenes from RR, but namely:

-The scene that Gabe beautifully describes, or one scene where Shep looks into the backyard of the Wheeler house, and there is an extreme long shot of him with the sun peaking at the corner. Beautiful work by Deakins.

-Paranoid Park, the shower scene. Great work from Doyle there, too.

When young Daisy (Elle Fanning) runs up to Benjamin — I always think of that shot when I think of the film.

Obviously, the “train/fedora scene” in RR is brilliant.

The Paranoid Park scenes on the beach with the crab grass — that one tracking shot from behind stuck with me.

‘Dark Knight’ where he’s on top off the skyscraper at dusk but it looks like he’s saluting — always a favorite.

FYC: How about Viggo Mortensen looking off the back of the train in ‘Appaloosa’?

2007 would have a MUCH better list just thinking about it. ‘Assassination of Jesse James’, ‘There Will Be Blood’, ‘Zodiac’ — they almost all need their OWN lists.

I’m indifferent about Ben Button, but that scene with Daisy in the gazebo (?) is definitely near the top. Also, for me, the shot at the end of Slumdog, when Jamal and Latika finally reunite.
