Last week the poster for Sofia Coppola’s “Somewhere” dropped. Today, via Apple, the trailer. Click the link or the image below. I imagine “The Kids Are All Right” will be the big Focus play, but maybe there’s a strong performance from Stephen Dorff in there. Or maybe Elle Fanning is charming enough. Or not. Releases December 22, so, pretty early for a trailer. Embed after the jump.

This is one of my most anticipated of the year…
…that being said, this preview made it look TOO much like “Lost in Translation.” Even some of the camera shots looked exactly the same. Hopefully this isn’t the case for the final product, but we’ll see.
I hope it’s amazing. Certainly better than the poster, or the recent trailer for Tangled, also on my most anticipated shortlist.
Is this some kind of conceptual art project where she tries to remake the same film and see if anyone cares?
This looks pretty wonderful
Lost in Translation was one of my favorite films of the last decade, so I would eat a remake up.
It should be said, though, that the fact that they chose an obscure b-side rough cut of the Strokes’ “You Only Live Once” was very exciting to me and only me.
I love The Strokes.
I love Danny King.
Ahh! So good! Can’t wait!
Beautiful, privileged white people suffering amidst beautiful and privileged surroundings. Love that she’s branching out.
I love Central Florida.
Why is sticking to a theme bad? Is it bad that Wes Anderson makes films about dysfunctional families? Not everyone can be a chameleon like Soderbergh or PTA.
I was about to say that the sexual tension of Lost in Translation would be absent, but then again, it might not.
Here’s to December.
@James D: Her “theme” is so limiting and offer nothing to most of the audience so she overcompensates with beautiful cinematography and rad soundtracks.
My issue with her work reminds me of my annoyance with Oliver Stone’s disingenuous confusion as to why new generation bankers love Gordon Gekko. Hello? You never really showed the damage his ilk caused normal people. Sofia never shows why exactly we should be feeling for her characters as everything is beautifully lit and perfect. But, I will give her this, at least she gives us something nice to look out while waiting 100 minutes for her characters to pull their heads out of their navels and realize how lucky they are.
I think this looks rather beautiful… and to snowballa- the fact that she doesnt show why we should feel for her characters is exactly why i like her movies. Sophia lets the character find their own space with in her film. I sometimes wonder if sophia would be a rather good documentary filmmaker… But im biased… Im a hipster gay, so this movie is right up my alley… this is like porn to my kind. haha
I couldn’t decide whether that was Peter Sarsgaard or Seann William Scott. :)
I really liked The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation, so I’ll be seeing this.
This looks dullish to me. Maybe I’ll be surprised but Dorff is no Murray. Sorry.
Looks like another great mood piece. I cannot wait to see this.
