I heard that Rick Baker had done an entirely practical makeup transformation for The Wolfman that was supposed to be pretty great. That was until Joe Johnston decided he wanted CGI for it instead.
You gotta love Harvey Weinstein’s unbridled arrogance and enthusiasm for his films — that is the kind of studio chief you want on your film.
It is funny to see how different I feel about Weinstein when he is on the side of the film I want to win. When he is promoting things like The Reader, he is a prick, but now he needs to succeed.
ha so true james d.
I’m a bit saddened by the whole Wolfman thing. Benicio del Toro is one of my favorite actors who seems to have been cursed with bad projects, or projects that simply don’t go anywhere. He couldn’t even strike lightning twice with Soderberg.
I’d give a limb to get Depp and del Toro back together as Duke and Gonzo.
As far as ol’ Harv goes, I’m with you, James. He’s being a pomp0us ass to be sure, but I’d be thrilled if Basterds took home the gold. But it should because the Academy liked it, not because the Weinsteins beat people with sticks.
I have to agree with James. I was pissed when he thought The Reader could win, but I want Basterds to win BP.
Harvey must really be ramping up the promotion for Basterds to win. Quentin was on The Rachel Maddow Show last night. Is there such a thing as overkill in Oscar campaigning? I can’t remember at the moment…
I’ve always admired Harvey’s audacity and marketing ability. If anyone can take a bloody, irreverent, seemingly divisive (though not nearly as much as I though it would be) WWII revenge fantasy and have it beat the highest grossing film of all time and the undisputed critical darling of 2009, it’s him.
I just hope to god he fails.
Why on earth wouldn’t Joe Johnston want a practical transformation for The Wolfman? I’m very surprised the interviewer didn’t follow up on that?
