I already own a Wii, and love it, but I’m thinking about adding a new console. I thought I’d toss it out to the gamers out there…which do you prefer?

PLaystation, more games \o/
X-BOX 360 ALL THE WAY!!!!
I own a Xbox 360 and I love it but being a movie guy some days I wish I had a Playstation 3 just so I could play Blu-Ray Discs.
A 360 has more immediate value. The Ps3 just doesn’t have enough good games to justify a purchase. Wait until it’s at the end of it’s life span, and then you can cherrypick the truly good ones.
360 is the way to go right now.
Both systems share a lot of great games, but there are a few pesky exclusives on each side that makes choosing one a pain. This is essentially how it has been for the last couple of years:
The 360 is an unstable, loud but suprisingly affordable machine, with loads of great exclusive games and a great online store.
The PS3 is a sleek, quiet, but expensive piece of hardware that hasn’t had many exclusives on the market up until recently.
My advice would be to look at the list of exclusive games for the Xbox 360 (both retail and through Xbox Live); if none of them tickle your fancy, get a PS3. It’ll make more sense in the long-run.
Short Answer: Get a PS3 now, get a 360 when you can afford it. :P
I’m actually a gaming critic, I write for gamesarefun.com and have written for e-mpire.com and vg-force.com (though I’m looking to break into film reviews, my true love is film, gaming is just a hobby). The 360 is definitely the way to go. As much as I want to play Metal Gear Solid 4, the 360 is just better as a gaming system. Most of the great games are on both. But of those that aren’t, the PS3 has MGS4 and that’s about it. The 360 has Gears of War, Halo 3, Dead Rising, Lost Oddysey, Tales of Vesparia, Ninja Gaiden 2, Crackdown, soon it’ll have Fable 2, really, this is a no brainer. Plus, its cheaper.
FYI, I’m not a first person shooter kind of guy. That make a difference?
Well there’s plenty of great shooters on either system. But the 360 wins in pretty much every genre right now. RPGs? There’s not a single good exclusive PS3 RPG. Not one. Folklore is the best and its mediocre. 360 has Lost Oddyssey, Blue Dragon, Tales of Vesparia, soon Fable 2. Action games? 360 wins there with Ninja Gaiden/Dead Rising/Crackdown. Racing? Forza Motorsport 2/Project Gotham Racing 4 are better than anything currently on PS3. All the sports and racing games are on both. Also, the Xbox Live Arcade is amazing. For 5-10 dollars, 15 or 20 for a few very advanced games on it, you can download entire games that were designed usually for quick pick up and play gameplay but which are often amazing. Braid, Castle Crashers, Geometry Wars 1 and 2, Assault Heroes 1 and 2, Pac Man Championship Edition, many more. Then you get many GREAT ports of older games, Mortal Kombat 3, Street Fighter 2, Doom, Contra, Prince of Persia, Sonic 1 and 2, Rez, Ikaruga, Puzzle Fighter, Castlevania Symphony of the Night, I have 44 arcade games alone. Even better, many of the classics have added online play, such as Street Fighter 2.
The PlayStation Network has some downloadable games too, in fact, a few, like a recent update of Bionic Commando, are on both. But there’s FAR less and the quality with a few exceptions is far lower.
My brother has both and told me that if you play mostly games get an XBOX360 but if you watch movies more than you play games get the PS3. The upscaler on the Ps3 is damn good and it plays Blu-Ray discs if you have the TV to play it on.
Gaming>Film = xbox360
Film>Gaming = PS3
I had to choose between them when GTA IV came out. Ended up going with the PS3 for Blu-Ray.
4 months later and I still only have the one PS3 game and only one Blu-Ray DVD (Zodiac Director’s Cut, for those keeping score).
360. The PS3 does have a Blu-Ray player, but it’s missing a few key features that a lot of stand-alone players have that hold the PS3 back from being future-ready. So the Blu-Ray should be an afterthought.
That being said, 360 has a plethora of games, and even shares some titles the PS3 has. It’s also critically regarded as the best of the three current systems. So I say go with the 360.
Go for the PS3, the Blu-Ray makes it worth it, since the firmware can be update to conform to new specs of Blu-Ray…
Xbox has better and more games, but being a movie guy, I am sure you will see the added value of owning a Blu-Ray player that will always be up to spec… it is also a great upconverting DVd player
