Predicting the Golden Globes

Written by

Michelle Pfeiffer in CheriOK, you know the drill. Have at it in the comments section. My best guesses below — remember, it wouldn’t be the Globes without a wacky pick or two, and a stunning snub. (Remember “Milk?”)

George Clooney is actually campaigned as supporting for Goats (from what I know). The leading one is pushed to be Ewan McGregor.

I like the wacky Best Actress – Drama line-up :) but you could’ve also thrown Saoirse in, just to make some of us happy.

And what is going on with The Last Station? Critics don’t like it or just haven’t seen it? (that would be strange…) It’s the most snubbed movie lately.

With Renner’s recent win, I’d include him over Mortensen, to completely honest.

I’ve already done the acting predictions on my blog… I probably fail miserably :) but surprises are always nice. I just hope for Michelle Pfeiffer.

Don’t count out Brad Pitt for Supporting.

THAT is the Tom Cruise of the morning.

  6. Nigel Bridgeman Avatar
    Nigel Bridgeman

I’m going to go with a nomination for Steve Martin in “It’s Complicated”. And you have to have at least one huge star in Best Actor (Drama) who won’t have a shot at an Oscar. I’m thinking… erm… Johnny Depp for Public Enemies.

  7. Aleksis Avatar

My only prediction is that Mariah Carey gets in for Supporting Actress.

Timberlake got the song “I see you” wrong. He said “I will see you” so I’m hoping he meant Judi Dench instead of Penelope Cruz :p

Eastwood in, his film out. Not really surprising…

I find it repugnant and disgusting that Nancy Meyers’ middle-aged hen-fest “It’s Complicated” and the frat-boy, douche-bag comedy of the year (“The Hangover”) both get nominated over “A Serious Man”.

But then again, what do expect them to do? The HFPA can’t have a bunch of hairy, middle-aged Jews walking around? They can’t put them in their promos and take pictures and interview those people!

  30. M.Harris Avatar

No big surprises in my opionion. When you take into consideration that it is the Golden Globes, and at times they can come up with some crazy nominations.

I like that Quinton Tarantino received a nomination for Basterds. That was a little surprising, just going by the lack of recognition in the previous critic’s awards.

Lee Daniels not getting nominated for “Precious,” in a way is surprising, but in another way it’s not. Although I enjoyed the movie, if their was a weak link to pick out about it, it was his directing.

And I guess my final minor surprise would be, Matt Damon getting a nod for “Invictus.” He was good in the movie, but not nomination worthy in my opionion. But I’m glad that he was nominated for “The Informant.”

An Education basically got ZERO love, outside of Mulligan. Makes me so happy!

Did Kris & Guy forget to set the alarms or something? Where’s the nominees post so we can comment (properly)?!

  33. Kate Avatar
    Kate

Julia Roberts for Duplicity? That was the biggest surprise for me. I mean, really, people actually saw that movie?

And no songs from Princess and the Frog, but that awful Avatar song gets a nod? Thank goodness the Oscar songs are always different!

HFPA are star fuckers. It’s turning into a joke.

Is anyone as incensed as I am that Jim Parsons didn’t get a nomination for Best Actor in a TV Series (Comedy) for The Big Bang Theory. He is beyond incredible.

  35. Morgan Avatar
    Morgan

Ironic that District 9 gets a screenplay nomination when Sharlto Copley made up all his dialogue. I guess it was great dialogue, but wasn’t acted well enough.

  36. McGuff Avatar

This is quickly shining some light on the locks. Looking at acting categories, which really only needs the SAG nominations before we can really lock in 5:

Best Actor: Bridges, Firth, Freeman and Clooney = locks.

Best Actress: Sandra Bullock (double GG nominee?!?), Merryl Streep, Carey Mulligan, Gabourey Sidibe = locks.

Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, Matt Damon = locks.

Best Supporting Actress: Mo’Nique, Anna Kendrick, Vera Farmiga, Julianne Moore = locks. Marion Cotillard, too, if supporting.

So we have 1 spot in each category, and the races aren’t all that compelling:

    Actor = Day-Lewis vs. Renner.
Actress = Mirren vs. Cotillard (n0), Blunt (no), Ronan?
    S. Actor: Plummer vs. An Education combo
    S. Actress: Morton vs. Women of Nine

Guy, that was silly to predict against (500)!
