I’ll offer some commentary when we have the full list of winners at 2.30, but for now I’ll just convey my astonishment at the competence of my predictions so far. And offer a hearty cheer for Agnes Varda.

Love the runner up nods for In the Loop and my 0 correct predictions for these awards

So far, terribly boring. Would’ve been more awesome had In the Loop won. But, nice to see it have some representation.

Oy, another hour and 15 minutes until the big’uns! I wonder if I can watch Up in that time frame, sans interruption.

    NYFCO Winners (So Far):

Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz, “Inglourious Basterds”

    Best Supporting Actress: Mo’nique, “Precious”

  5. Alex in Movieland Avatar

yeah, I was just gonna say about the NYFCO ones. Good for them

The runners-up are vastly more inspired choices than the winners. With the exception of Christian Berger, although I was really holding out for some Greig Fraser love with the critics.

NYFCO: Director was Cameron vs. Bigelow. Bigelow won.

The UITA screenplay win suggests to me it will win Best Picture with the LAFCA as well.

  10. The Other James D. Avatar

Yeah, I have doubts The Hurt Locker will win BP here. (Maybe Best Director though?) But hopefully, NYFCC maintains the momentum.

Nice job on your predictions so far – far more compitent than you predicted.

NYFCO: Meryl, Inglourious for Cinematography & Screenplay. allegedly

It’s going to be so boring if Mo’Nique and Waltz sweep the critics awards (and beyond).

  14. The Other James D. Avatar

I concur. It would be great if they each win the respective Oscar. But for the critics awards, can’t we spread the love a bit?

Vera Farmiga and Stanley Tucci winning at least one a piece would be heavenly.

Where are you guys hearing about the NY Online critics? I don’t see anything on their site.

I have nothing in favor of the Washington Critics from earlier in the week and nothing against the LA Critics…but it’s nice to now that after so much criticism from the Washington guys calling them uninspired and trying to emulate the Oscars, the holy LA Critics have so far done exactly the same. I bet nobody will call them the same.

Just look at the writing and the choice of words for the stories of the LA and Boston awards and compare them to the DC awards which are all basically coming from the same pile.

Even if the second part of the LA Awards are more “inspired” choices, they’ll still be part-emulators of the Oscars…but nobody will call them that.

When people deserve it, they deserve it, when you like somebody, you like them. You can’t go voting for somebody else just to avoid being called a copycat.

Also, I love the unusual choice of Yolande Moreau–I’ve heard incredible things and had Séraphine down on my list of yet to be seen films.

Carey Mulligan was runner-up for Actress.

But I have to say I’m shocked–I’ve never even heard of the film the Best Actress winner was in.

Really? I don’t remember how I heard of it, but it’s been on my radar. She received raves for her performance.

Up in the Air was the runner-up for Picture and Kathryn Bigelow beat Michael Haneke for Director.

This is a great day to be Kathryn Bigelow.
