Agree. Don’t know if you saw my related post on Thurs? http://andthewinneris.blog.com/2009/10/29/preciousstarbustsamove/
I didn’t, actually.
Both A O Scoot and Phillips gave this movie a great review on at the movies. Can not wait to see it.
that was very cool! can’t wait for the movie.
I don’t know what kind of interview Carey Mulligan does or what kind of speech she might give should she win anywhere down the road, but I’m saying it right now: you give Gabourey Sidibe one good, early win, where she’ll get to do an acceptance speech, and she will win the Oscar. Full stop. It’s rare you find any celebrities who are quite so joyful and funny and smart, but able to talk pretty profoundly about their experience and their process. To find all those qualities in a newcomer is stunning, and I don’t think the Academy will be able to resist that.
So, in summation: on Oscar night, you WILL hear the phrase “And the Oscar goes to…Gabourey Sidibe”. There, I’m out on the limb, take it or leave it.
She’s most certainly in the thick of it. This stopped being solely a Meryl vs. Carey race for me the moment I saw “Precious,” so we’ll see how it plays out.
“Give me 30 seconds of YOUR Oscar speech!”
LOL. What an awesome girl.
Hmm, very likeable girl. I guess she needs to continue this to separate her from the character, as DeGeneres mentioned early on.
The dancing made me cringe, though. Not Sidibe but the idea in general. Who came up with such a practice?
Didn’t mind the dancing;just a young woman being herself.Which can endear her more to people. From the interview you can tell that she is a down to earth woman who doesn’t take herself to seriously.
Sometimes I ask myself how did Adrien Brody come up with kissing Halle Berry on the lips after he won his award. Now that made me cringe.
The dancing was perfect. Perfect venue for it, too. I doubt she’d do it on Meet the Press.
I guess I am the only one that agreed with the town in Footloose.
Yeah that is the perfect venue.Didn’t Barack Obama do a little dance on Ellen?
Kris, has it been announced when Oprah is planning to do her entire week of Precious shows?
I dont see her winning, but I am almost sure she will get her nom.
Everyone dances on Ellen! It’s part of the contract. I’m serious.
The question is: who gave the better performance. A friend of mine saw An Education and told me Carey’ work is for the ages, one of the greatest breakthrough turn he’s ever seen. If people are this enthusiastic about her, I can’t believe Sidibe could win when she still has to compete with Mo’nique for attention.
Mo’nique are in two different categories and they compliment each other. That hasn’t stopped any film with two wins for acting before…
Mo’nique and Gabby are in two different categories and they compliment each other in the film. Why would they compete for attention when they are both equally great?
Having major problems with the “home” page on the site…there is no side bar with your predictions on the right side of the screen (just a blank white strip), and no articles to be found when you scroll down past your most recent Oscar chat (episode 8)…from there on down there are no articles (just blank screen).
What browser, David. Showing up fine for me in both Safari and Firefox.
She is absolutely adorable!!

Haven’t seen “Precious,” but Mulligan isn’t even second best Lead Actress performance I’ve seen. I’d place both Streep and Cornish above her. And she’s really very good, but the praise kind of got out of hand. On the movie, too.
it’s silly to think like this, but dance will help out a lot…if enough people saw it, if she comes back specially if/when she gets nominated for things, and does it again (and she will)… it just makes her seem so fun, “real”, unlike the character (from what I’ve seen), the whole 30 second speech joke, she’s not this shy girl that won’t go out there…
she looks like she’s gonna work that campaign in a very honest and fun way…
[…] health is a major issue for Sidibe. I watched a clip of the actress on the “Ellen” show and it looks as though she’s about 2 or 3 […]
