I just happened to notice when logging on to the back end of the site today that reader Michael’s comment in appreciation of Guy’s just-launched Venice coverage marks the 100,000th comment from you all here at In Contention. Of course, it surely totals more when you figure in general patrolling of the comments sections vis a vis our commenting policy, and especially considering the switch to WordPress three years ago (all of these came in those three years), but regardless, 100,000 it is. It’s not as big a number as some sites that have been running strong for that amount of time, but I know it’s a core of impassioned, niche readers who enjoy the lively discussion we get into here. And I know it also represents hundreds of thousands more who merely browse and refrain from speaking up. But for everyone involved in getting us to that number, it seems a good time here at the start of the season to simply say: thank you.

And something like three of those comments were mine in the two years I’ve been regularly coming to this site. Congrats.
YAY!!!! I’ve never won anything before! What do I win?
LOL j/k – that is pretty exciting nonetheless
Thanks for having a blog worth commenting on!
Congrats! Well deserved all around!
Congrats! Big fan.
Geez, we thank YOU, Kris! And congratulations.
As Hero said, thanks for having a site worth commenting. Even though i’ve only posted a handful of those, i still religiously visit this corner of the web everyday. Thanks and Congrats!
That’s great. The conversions in the comment sections are always good.
I almost never comment, but I checked the site each day more than 3 times. Keep up the great work!!
We should be thankful the 100.000th comment wasn’t one of those “FIRST!!!” posts.
Regardless, my congratulations and thanks for the awesome work to you, Kris and Guy, and everyone else involved!
^yes I agree – I am glad my comment didn’t turn out to be about something completely irrelevant to the topic being discussed. That would’ve been embarassing LOL.
And thanks again to Guy and Kris for having a site like this that provides such excellent coverage and an atmosphere that is receptive to different opinions (that is somehow free of a lot of negativity that plagues most other places.) Great work everyone!
Thank YOU all. I absolutely adore this website and your guys’ writing and coverage. It’s a delight having a site like this around.
I was also telling many cinephile friends how there’s nobody I enjoy following on Twitter more than the InContention guys.
Awesome, love this site… so glad the awards season is starting up again… so lets cut the BS Kris, when is the top 10 shots post coming. :)
The request that never ends (Kris’ top 10 shots). lol
Congrats guys!! Honestly, this site has become my authority on film. I’ve always scoured reviews and I’ve always been a little too obsessed with film awards. So, I was delighted to find this site. I find your reviews refreshingly balanced, opinionated but intelligently so and applied with restraint and perspective. Well done and I can’t wait to read more of what you guys have to offer this upcoming autumn, as I’ve only discovered the site recently.
Neat. Congratulations!
As others have said, thanks for putting together a site worth commenting on.
This site is easily the best of the Awards coverage sites. It’s smart, insightful, and free of the agenda pushing and mild hysteria of some other sites. Keep it up.
For years I used to read this site and just recently started commenting. Yours is the site that I try to emulate. Thanks for the great writing Kris and Guy!
No problemo Kris. Congrats.
