It’s probably largely to do with the inherent sense of understanding, but there’s also something universal about it, about the tragically imperfect’s search for perfection. In any case, I find this to be one of the best, if simplest, slices of genius on the page in our time. Anyway, as you were. I’m just bored here.

I couldn’t help but notice just now that on Kaufman’s IMDb page that he’s listed as being the script revisor for Kung-Fu Panda 2. Kaufman is one of the few screenwriters working today (if not the only one) who just so happens to be a genius in their own right. Kung-Fu Panda 2? I haven’t seen it yet, but seriously, what gives?
^^^he’s gotta eat somehow.

Does Kaufman have any other projects lined-up, as writer or director? His Wikipedia page says something about a film called “Frank or Francis,” and a quick google search brought up a couple of casting bits, but I was wondering if that was still on track. It sounds like it could be hilarious (it supposedly is a ‘director vs. blog critic’ scenario). Either way, a Kaufman project is always something to get excited about, so I hope he’s got something coming out sooner rather than later.
@The Dude: He has that, and there’s also a political movie written by him and directed by Spike Jonze that’ll probably start next year.
@The Dude: Yeah, hopefully we’ll have two Kaufman projects by next year. The political satire (with Joaquin Phoenix attached) directed by Jonze and Frank or Francis a Hollywood satire- musical as his next directorial effort.
You have strong opinions about plenty. Yet you find yourself bored. Ask yourself this: How am I not myself today?
I love when Robert McKee yells at him when he says nothing happens, like in life. Probably the best scene in Cox’s career and great reaction by Cage
That made me smile. Love ‘Adaptation’.
Cage needs to stop slummin it and get back to doing movies like this.
It’s unanimous then. Adaptation rules.
For me, Adaptation. re-defined the boundaries of cinema.
I forgot how good Cage, as well as Jonze (who I’ve been down on since “Wild Things”) can be when given material like this. They both need Kaufman again, if you ask me.
Kaufman and Jonze are supposed to be working on something. I remember Jonze mentioning this at a QA for the Fighter back in January.
Of course when it will go into production God only knows.
This movie was on T.V. the other day. Coincidence?
Saw this for the first time last week and I loved it. Definitely one of my fav Nic Cage performances.
Adaptation is just brilliant, and this scene golden. I would love for Kaufman, Jonze, and Cage to reunite. And I’d love Meryl Streep to get roped into this somehow.
Thanks for taking me out of my obsession of the Dolphins quarterback quandry/circus, and reminding me of one of the better films of the past decade.
