Looks like the Singer costume. Something about the plastic-ness of that steel door bothers me. Lots of trepidation on my end. Fingers crossed.

Looks better than I expected and the cast is pretty phenomenal, but I remain skeptical as long as Zack Snyder is directing this thing. Trying to remain optimistic about it and hope that it delivers.
Love that image, but in the context of the film I probably won’t like if its 100 percent stylistic. Something about his films that just look inorganic on screen.
Fingers crossed.
Margaret has a release date!!!
Well, to me, Snyder is always about style over substance, so it worries me tremendously….the cast is great, but his movies so far does not generate any emotion inside me (haven’t seen Sucker Punch yet) nor any fun…
red_wine: Way to stay on track.
Nice costume, I think they got rid of the red trunks, unless my eyes are fooling me…which I applaud.
But that hair…I dunno…he looks like Laura Palmer’s dad or Mitt Romney.
Looks like a cartoon of Cilliam Murphy in the Superman Returns outfit. WTF?!
I meant Cillian Murphy.
He looks pretty bad ass, unlike Brandon Routh.
Never been a Superman fan, but I guess I’ll be seeing this.
Jon Hamm was made for this role…shame.
Cillian Murphey in a Superman Returns outifit? What?
Bia, this movie is supposed to be about Superman’s early years, it’s a reboot. Don’t you think Jon Hamm would be a little old for that?
What could POSSIBLY be left to say or explore in another Superman film? Same with the new Spider-Man. What. is. the. point?
There is tons left to explore. Unfortunately, no one is willing to explore it. We get the same movie and same two villains over and over again.
Ditto Spider-Man. Rinse and repeat. That’s what we’re getting. But it’s wrong to assume there isn’t a wealth of material to mine for theme and story. Because there most certainly is.
Chad in terms of the point, it’s similar to that question in the Help thread about why studios don’t make films about controversial issues except it is the flip side of that coin now.
But of course you know this.
Actually I read some of the comics and they were SO different from anything shown in the movies. Superman does not even seem like the same boy scout character. But more like a troubled god. I was impressed with the high seriousness of it all, atleast the attempt at genuine pathos.
The movies do seem to explore the same territory over and over again.
I really hate this image. It makes me think the film was supposed to star Arnold Schwarzenegger, and then I’m disappointed that it’s not starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Knowing Christopher Nolan developed the story and is producing this film, I have all the faith in the world. Snyder is another story.
Plus, I <3 Henry Cavill.
I wish someone would make a movie focusing on Lex Luthor, and his real reason for hating Superman – that humanity is now at the mercy of a god. There’s more to it that can be explored, but Luthor by Brian Azzarello is a good start. Sadly that won’t ever happen.
Superman Returns at least tried to do something different than the norm.
Matthew Starr- my question is definitely posed to the potential audience though, not studios. Who is getting excited about these movies that are rehashing the same material again and again? Someone who is excited about seeing the new Spider-Man, please step forward and explain why you’re gonna give Sony $11 for recycling themselves so blatantly and lazily. I’m legitimately curious.
Just because this isn’t the Dark Crusader doesn’t mean there’s nothing to explore… I mean who would have thought that X-Men could be that good?
And I agree with red_wine, not a graphic novel fan but I’ve read some superhero comics and I noticed that disparity from the source material…
Make it good Snyder!
Chad: Because it’s a different take on the same material. Yes, no one wants to go through the origin again, but you’re just gonna have to tough this one out to get to the more adventurous stuff. (And luckily we have a different villain this time.) I am also excited because I hated Raimi’s movies.
Superhero comics, since their inception, have been nothing but re-interpreting the same basic outlines, so it’s no surprise that the movies do too.
Apparently they are using the little known “Superman is a moody bank robber” storyline from the 1980s comics.
I’m with Rashad on Spider Man. I didn’t like any of Raimi’s films, I thought the second was okay. I also like Garfield, Stone and the rest of the cast so I have some interest in this new Spider Man although I would not say I am “excited” about it.
I am not certain that moviegoers are excited about a new superman or spider man but everyone will go see them simply because it’s superman and spider man.
Of course most of the main audience for those films do not visit web sites like this.
Lets not all jump to conclusions about this and the new Spiderman. This is a photo and we’ve only seen the trailer for the other. We can’t just assume they’re blatant re-hashes and don’t do anything new with the material, you have to see the final product first. I’m also assuming they’ll both adhere to lazy studio calculation, but I’m not ready to just write either one off entirely yet.
Where’s the curl?
Those are not Henry Cavill’s biceps.
My guess is that Superman has no curl and Clark does. So if the glasses don’t throw you, the hair will.
It looks awful… I prefer Brandon Routh.
