‘50/50’ poster

One comedy that could light up the awards circuit later this year is Jonathan Levine’s “50/50.” I noted some potential awards prospects when the trailer hit two months ago (and I think we can add Anna Kendrick to the list of possibilities, too). Today, courtesy of /Film, we get a look at the poster for the film. Check it out in full after the jump.

Jonathan Levine is a pretty talented guy. The Wackness had its charms even if it didn’t ever fully come together, and All the Boys Love Mandy Lane was actually (I thought) a pretty atmospheric and creepy horror film. Amber Heard hasn’t been used nearly as well in anything else.

That pun is not classy at all.

It takes a pair, as in, “a pair.” Think Tom Greene.

Is the movie specifically about testicular cancer?

This is the guy behind All the guys love mandy lane? I had no idea… granted I only watched the first 15 minutes of the film and could not take it any longer.

Kris, I’m thrilled that you think 50/50 has a chance during awards season. JGL and Seth Rogen seem like a good pair- looking forward to this film come September.

Will- I think Amber Heard was decent in The Joneses… but I feel like at this point in her career she needs to lay off of the hyper-sexual roles. Was her role in All the guys… on a similar route? From the small part that I watched, I remember two guys fighting over her and one of them jumping off of a roof.

He has a form of spinal cancer, not testicular cancer, so no, there’s not any hidden pun there.

It occurred to me recently that the Best Actress side of Musical/Comedy is going to be almost completely empty. Kristen Wiig is, quite literally, the only name I can come up with. Unless Meryl is campaigned as comedy for “The Iron Lady”, which looks like a genuine possibility. “Young Adult”, I guess? But, my god, could Cameron Diaz be nominated for “Bad Teacher”? It looks that threadbare. Although, I guess, maybe it will just mean they’ll have to look elsewhere like that year where they nominated incredible UNfamous people such as Hope Davis and Patricia Clarkson. Hmmm.

Anyway, as for “50/50” – any movie that gives me a chance to watch Joseph Gordon Levitt AND Seth Rogen at the same time is a win in my books. Although the sight of Bryce Dallas Howard in the credits is terrifying.

    Hank,

Sort of. I don’t want to give anything away too much. I guess I’ll say that she’s playing someone who everyone just noticed got hot and it’s more that everyone else in the film sexualizes her and wants something from her. She’s almost a blank slate.

What’s with the Bryce Dallas Howard hate? I don’t think she’s that bad.

Glenn, from the looks of the trailer for Crazy Stupid Love, there may be some viable candidates for the Golden Globes. I wouldn’t normally pen any big, summer studio films as awards-worthy but after the travesty of the Musical/Comedy category last year, anything goes at this point.

I think Midnight in Paris, Bridesmaids, and 50/50 have a better shot at landing noms for Musical/Comedy. The premise of Young Adult sounds promising (especially with Reitman and Diablo Cody attached).

Gotcha. Well, I most likely will not be finishing that film but I’m looking forward to see Ms. Heard in The Rum Diaries.

I wonder if just maybe JGL could surprise with a nomination, given that it’s a role with some genuine pathos and the whole cancer thing appealing to voters maybe. I’m excited to see this performance, and having Huston, Rogen, and Kendrick on hand is great as well.
