Ranking Oscar’s 41 features (minus one)

Oh, I forgot “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.” It should go between “Exit Through the Gift Shop” and “True Grit.”

I’m glad to see that almost all of you posted The Social Network above The King’s Speech.

A top 10 is enough for me:
    1. “The Social Network”
    2. “The Illusionist”
    3. “Black Swan”
    4. “Salt”
    5. “True Grit”
    6. “The Town”
    7. “The Kids Are All Right”
    8. “Tangled”
    9. “Inception”
    10. “Iron Man 2”

I’ve managed to see 40 of the nominated films – but I include shorts. This year, sadly, none of the foreign films.

In rough categories of subjective quality:

    Excellent
    1. “Black Swan”
    2. “The Social Network”
    3. “Toy Story 3″
    4. “Exit Through the Gift Shop”
    5. “Another Year”
    6. “Inception”
    7. “Blue Valentine”
    8. “How to Train Your Dragon”
    9. “The Confession”
    10. “God of Love”

    Really (maybe even surprisingly) good
    11. “Restrepo”
    12. “The Fighter”
    13. “Salt”

    Good
    14. “The King’s Speech”
    15. “127 Hours”
    16. “The Gruffalo”
    17. “Wish 143”
    18. “Gasland”
    19. “Inside Job”
    20. “Winter’s Bone”
    21. “The Kids Are All Right”
    22. “The Lost Thing”
    23. “Let’s Pollute”

    Mixed
    24. “TRON Legacy”
    25. “Animal Kingdom”
    26. “True Grit”
    27. “The Way Back”
    28. “Madagascar, Carnet de Voyage”
    29. “The Town”
    30. “Day & Night”
    31. “The Warriors of Qiugang”
    32. “Unstoppable”
    33. “Iron Man 2″

    Mediocre
    34. “The Crush”
    35. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1”

Films I hated (for various reasons)
    36. “Rabbit Hole”
    37. “I Am Love”
    38. “Alice in Wonderland”
    39. “Hereafter”
    40. “The Illusionist”

DylanS – Why would me not seeing the movies piss anybody off?

I assumed you were just putting down all of the films nominated without seeing them, if that’s not the case, then my appolgies. I just don’t understand why you so frequently write negitave comments relating to films you either haven’t seen or only partly saw (ex. Shutter Island), it just seems like an aim to piss people with more well-based opinions regarding those films off.

I’ve only seen 26 of the 41, but out of the 15 I’ve missed, 11 were in your bottom 13 (the two exceptions I’ve seen were Alice and Dogtooth; the four others I’m missing are Gasland, In A Better World, the Illusionist, and Barney’s Version). Most of the films I omitted were left out purposefully because I have no interest– sounds like it was a good thing– but I’m working to see In a Better World, Gasland, and Incendies.

    My Top 10:
    1. Black Swan
    2. Blue Valentine
    3. The Social Network
    4. The Kids Are All Right
    5. The King’s Speech (it *is* possible to like both!)
    6. True Grit
    7. Toy Story 3
    8. Rabbit Hole
    9. Biutiful (even though it’s kinda a mess)
    10. Another Year

We have seven in common, Kris, but where we differ, we really differ. I don’t get the love for Exit through the Gift Shop (which I respect as a film), but I really, really don’t get the love for The Way Back. I saw it right after Another Year and the transition was painful.
