    That scene is in no way over the top if you remember that Plainview is completely drunk in the scene. Drunk people act crazy, kids. A drunk Daniel Plainview would act even crazier. Hence the “over the top” antics.

    I hate when people say the ending is over the top. Of course it’s over the top! Plainview is over the top. Eli is over the top. The film’s score is over the top. The entire freakin movie is over the top. That doesn’t make it any less great, and that intense an ending is exactly what the movie deserves.

    PT Anderson needs to make another film pronto! I was so looking forward to The Master with Hoffman and Renner.
