You might recall last year’s Oscar Guide, a daily assessment of each of Oscar’s 24 categories leading up to the big night. Accompanying each post (which details each nominee and offers up predictions and preferences) is a poll asking for your own personal choice for the category of the day. The idea is at the end, we’ll have an In Contention readers’ ballot and, hopefully, we’ll have shed as much light on each race as possible along the way.
As of right now, we’re 33 days away from the 83rd annual Academy Awards. That leaves 23 business days to handle the first 23 categories. On Saturday, February 26, the eve of the Oscars, we’ll finish up with the Best Picture category and then Sunday the 27th, we’ll put up your ballot.
Things will get started later today with the Best Supporting Actress race. That poll is already up and running, so feel free to go ahead and chalk up your choice in the left sidebar if you like. Check back later for the first entry in the series.

I voted Amy Adams.
It’s one of, if not her best performance. She’s playing against type. And I actually preferred her to Melissa Leo (slightly).
I loved what HBC did with her part, but the role is just too thin.
Hailee Steinfeld – Great first time out, but I just preffered Adams’ subtle portrayal slightly more, and Steinfeld is Lead on my personal list.
And Jackie Weaver – congrats to her, but I just wasn’t affected by that performance.
Furthermore, this is Adams’ 3rd nomination, and she could/should have won for Junebug, and didn’t.
So with these polls, we should pick who we think will win or who should win?
I was about to ask the same thing as Mike_M. The wording is quite relevant in this case.
A glance at the poll pretty much spells it out, guys:
“Who do you think deserves the Oscar for BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS?”
Got ya Kris, I was just confused (even though I read the deserving part) if the goal was to have a site-wide ballot that matches the winners or if this represents who your readers think should win…
I just looked at the poll wording and came in to double check which way to vote. Jackie Weaver it is.
