Remember how “Million Dollar Baby” was not on anyone’s radar until the week of release in 2004? Or how there was a big push for “Flags” and then when the NBR named “Letters” their top film of 2006 it got a big push? Warner tends to underplays Eastwood films until they know they’ve got a hit. Also the fact that its a closing selection for NYFF is always an excellent sign—last few years they have chosen Persepolis, The Wrestler, Broken Embraces, and now Hereafter

I, for one, think Reynolds has a real shot at a nomination if voters actually watch the movie. It’s an unbelievable performance, and the sort of thing they love to reward (showy acting challenge).

Reynolds is serviceable at best in Buried.
