Just an FYI, Anne and I are pretty much slammed today. Everything decided to bunch up at the end of the week. So we’re going to hold off on Oscar Talk until tomorrow morning. Stay tuned.

It’s certainly your season to be slammed. I wait with bated breath, sir.
Since this thread is vacated, I’m going to voice my thoughts after just returning home from Up in the Air. I feel like this will almost surely win the Oscar, and it really worked for me. I don’t think it punched me in the nose emotionally, but it was in the face region.
But, assuming anyone reads this, I have a question: do we think George Clooney is a GREAT actor? He’s obviously extremely likable, he does comedy well, and for the ladies, he’s something to look at. But I can’t help shake the idea that he is TOO cool as a cucumber to handle some of the emotionally heavy-lifting that certain roles ask from him. That was why Michael Clayton really stood out, I think: he wasn’t really called on to have scenes of dealing with personal emotion. Looking at his filmography, it almost seems he avoids it, and I’m just not sure I won’t go down thinking Danny Ocean was the role he was born to play.

I dont think George Clooney is a great actor, or maybe he is and Im more impressed by character actors then stock characters. Its hard to connect with him becuase hes just sly for me and too cool, hes no daniel day lewis, and he doesnt connect like morgan freeman does for me or any of the other greats

AmReq: I agree, and if you haven’t seen UItA yet, I think it will only re-affirm this. He is a good actor, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think he’s a great one. And, while the movie is probably 3.5 stars for me, I don’t think he’ll be in my top 5 best actors list at year’s end.
