It’s that time of year.
I’ve got about a dozen heads coming over for a Thanksgiving feast. Parade. Football. Screeners (a LOT of ’em). A full day of cheer. But I’d like to, of course, take a moment to hand out my thank yous.
At the top of that list are my fellow contributors here at In Contention; Guy, Gerard, Chad, John, you help me keep the ship afloat. It’s a different place without you.
Ditto the readership. Each of you keeps things lively and in motion. Without that we’re just crying out in a void.
I’m thankful for those I deal with professionally on a daily basis. Sometimes we butt heads, other times we serve separate, diametrically opposed masters, but I’d like to think we maintain our humanity, if sometimes not our sanity. And I’m happy to call many of you my friends.
Thanks, of course, to my family, who indulged the movie bug in me way back when. And to my lady, April, for the consistent patience you seem to pull out of your hat day in and day out. I’m a handful.
Thank you. And Happy Thanksgiving. The floor is yours today.

I finally watched 9 while waiting for a flight at LAX. Yikes! Good luck Kristopher.
The picture of the screeners is awesome. It’s one thing to hear about the massive pile, but seeing that really drives home how difficult it must be for Academy members to catch up on everything. Here’s hoping The Hurt Locker gets added to that pile very soon!
Gosh! I loved the picture of the screeners… “9” opens here today, want to see it so bad!
And thank all of you for keeping the website of course, and working your ass of, it’s my homepage
Thanks to you Kris and company for keeping a consistent and thought provoking site going…
Also thanks to the significant other and family for putting up with my crazy movie watching tendencies and strange fascination with film awards…
and thank you to Hollywood and its players for keeping me entertained this past year…(even though your less than desirable release schedule has made me wait for Nine, Invictus, The Lovely Bones and Avatar…)
I need to get in on this screener racket, drool.
How does a member of the press become a member of the Academy, Kris?
I hate you Kris.
In a purely jealous sort of way. So congrats, and have fun.
don’t watch Sin Nombre today, it will only ruin your day (amazing movie, but not one I want to watch again any time soon).
Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Kris.
And go Lions… Maybe they can get a “W” today to stay within the elite company of the Redskins?
Hahaha.
SO JEALOUS OF YOUR SCREENERS! Enjoy the day :)
Fantastic Mr. Fox is pulling insane numbers already – has made almost 2 million in just 4 theatres
I want those screeners, especially Sin Nombre. Interestingly, Sin Nombre’s director is doing an adaptation of Jane Eyre with the great Michael Fassbender next. I’m there.
Speaking of Fassbender, save for his scene in the tavern (oh, and Diane Krueger is so damn good, too), Inglorious Basterds is just not very good. It’s not a waste of time, but it…sucks.
Lastly, for those that enjoy good beer, might I suggest 2 Below by Fat Tire and Widmer’s Brrr. They’ll compliment the turkey nicely. Or wine.
I watched Inglourious Basterds again last night. It went up a notch. It’s always been hard to argue with the fact that it’s quite enjoyable, but I’ve decided I like everything EXCEPT the stuff with The Basterds. And only (and I do mean only) because other contenders are beginning to underwhelm, I might be ready to give credence to the notion that it can get in for Best Pic.
Widmer rocks.
Best wishes to you too Kris for this great forum and the great film coverage.
Do they offer any screeners on Blu-ray?
Happy Thanksgiving to all here, especially the writers.
I caught up with Sunshine Cleaning last night, for whatever reason. What an awful movie. Legitimately near the bottom of my list for the year, which is surprising, considering my expectations were something light that wouldn’t affect me much at all. Hoping to see The Road on Saturday.
Happy Thanksgiving Kris. We’re grateful for the lively, thoughtful conversation on your site. Grateful for the fun. Have a lovely day with family and friends.
Happy Thanksgiving. Keep up the good work

Apologies. How does one join the BFCA?
