French trailer for ‘A Prophet’

I love it. Kris loves it. Anne Thompson loves it. And hey, Anjelica Huston loves it too.

If you’re a little curious as to what the fuss is about, here is a subtitle-free glimpse of Jacques Audiard’s “A Prophet,” handily the finest foreign-language Oscar contender I’ve seen so far. (Not that I’ve seen many. But this’ll take some beating.)

You’re not the only ones who love it, Guy. I love it, too. Have seen it twice. It’s an amazing movie. A shame it’ll be up only for Best Foreign Language Film.

Haha, I’m well aware of that — I haven’t read or spoken to anyone with a bad word to say about it. But hey, I only have so much column space ;)

I doubt you’ll find one to say a bad word. European cinema this year is on such a high level.

It literally drives me bonkers that the best foreign films generally don’t come out until AFTER the freaking Oscars.

Luckily, “The White Ribbon” will be out in January in my area, but I just recently saw “Baader Meinhof Complex” a full 8 months after it was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film.

I think I already mentioned how much I like “A Prophet” on more than one occasion, but hey, since we’re all such a happy family that loves the film, I’ll say it one more time. :)

    It is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

And WOW. This looks fanfreakintastic. I adored “The Beat That My Heart Skipped,” so anything from Audiard is going to be HIGH on my radar.

Well, that may be true, but we have to wait to see everything else. “Up” was released two weeks ago…

Actually, the Brits aren’t getting “A Prophet” until 2010 either. Ah, the joy of festivals.
