I think this looks gorgeous.
At worst, it can’t be worse than Transformers.
At best, it could be a visual, thematic masterpiece.
It’s all about the script.
I supported James Cameron’s vision for the film when I saw the teaser, but now I want to switch my vote. I didn’t want to comment on the CGI until I saw full scenes with dialogue instead of few second-long clips, and now that I have not only do the visual not deliver at all, but the script looks unbelievably predictable and trite. “This is OUR land!” Are you kidding me? And just how stupid did James Cameron think his audience would be to make the humans so transparently evil and the Na’Vi so exotic and saintly? Gee, what a surprise that Sam Worthington’s disabled Marine would defect and defend the spectacular and perfect Pandora.
Sorry, Jim, you’ve just lost a supporter on this one. Hope you can prove me wrong.
I promise this will be my last negative Avatar comment, but this rubs me the wrong way so completely that I can’t help myself. Awful, awful looking movie.
Wow! It looks beautiful! This is the trailer that the people have been waiting for!
sometimes classical and melodramatic narrative works.
it only depends on the right amount of dark and shadow tones and Sure they wouldn’t sell darkness on a trailer!
so I’ll wait for the fracking movie to make a judgement.
It’s a lot better than the first trailer but I’m still less excited about the film than when I knew almost nothing about it.
Looks amazing. One of my biggest fears was that the 3D IMAX footage I saw on Avatar Day wouldnt translate in 2D. That’s no longer a concern.
I’m really excited for Avatar’s march to the Kodak Theatre. 7 years is a long wait for a return to sweeping, epic, big canvas storytelling.
Now that we have the full trailer, with story and the characters laid out, what is there to distinguish Avatar from other summer block-busters out there.
NOTHING
It looks so woefully ordinary. But then again I’m seeing it first day only for the visuals.
And let me stress again that now it looks cartoonish but it looks way better in Imax 3D But the script is gonna such balls either ways.
red_wine, if something looks “woefully ordinary” why would you rush out and see it opening day?
If anyone can make such an allegedly hokey work it’s Cameron. It’s gonna be a blockbuster but a truly amazing one for a change.
Loyal, some movies actually ARE a cultural obligation. Your interest does not matter, there are some movies that you will always end up watching in a theater. I’m sure even Chad’s gonna see it.
But as I said earlier I’m going only for the visuals. More interested from a technical point of view to see how does the extensive CGI hold up.
I guess a ticket sold is a ticket sold red_wine. Just doesn’t make a lot of sense if you’re going to a movie you already don’t like based on pre-release material and will probably gripe and moan about endlessly.
Maybe you’ll even watch Avatar with your arms crossed and a scorn look on your face the entire time. On second thought, that would be pretty funny with 3D glasses on.
I hope you’re going by yourself unless your company feels the same way about Avatar seven weeks in advance as you do.
I will not be seeing it.
Loyal: The movie will never disappoint me as I’m going solely for the visuals and that the movie will deliver in spades. I can only be pleasantly surprised if it turns out to be really good.
Its these really presumptuous claims that this movie will change the game, change the movies. Movies aren’t changed by advanced special effects but by scripts like Last Year At Marienbad. I do watch my share of action blockbusters but I’m not thoroughly enamored with them and Avatar is an action blockbuster afterall.
About watching the movie, it will probably be a huge croup of college friends which will have snobs and commoners in equal proportion, if I’m allowed to put it that way.
This snob and commoners mob sounds grand.
Will your horde be attending 2012 and New Moon as well for cultural obligation purposes?
chad what if it gets great reviews? what is wrong with the movie going crowd? you have no faith in what you claim to love, the average movie goer appreciates movies more then most of you ever could, your love has brad hate, its like a religion or a cult, shame guys, real shame
also the trailer looks epic, ill give my faith until proved otherwise
Loyal: Those 2 are more like cultural liabilities.
I don’t understand your question AmericanRequiem. I don’t care which movies get great reviews and which don’t. The first trailer was meant to showcase the revolutionary effects but I thought they looked like shit. The second trailer was meant to emphasize the story and all we seem to get is a story recycled from countless others. Why spend the money? There’s lots of other films coming out in December that have me much more excited.
Who else here thinks the music on the new official site is already a lock for an Oscar nod?
I don’t get how any filmophile can NOT see this movie. I’ve mixed feelings about what I’m seeing, but gosh, it’s not like it’s made by one of the biggest directors of the last thirty years in a burgeoning film form or anything.
Whoa… I totally called the plot (well, close enough)…

Great trailer, I am there opening day. The creatures are pretty awesome, should be fun on the big screen. Cameron has never let me down and great to see my namesake in another one of his films (Sigorney).
the plot has been done before
looks pretty awesome, visuals look very good and of course the story seems recycled as it is a trailer and thats kinda how things seem in 2 and a half minute spans, im excited and ready for this to come
Haha I guarantee Robert Hamer that you go and see it. Fan or not this is too appealing to sit and complain and not see it at all.
I was on board until I saw the phony looking blue lovers. It just looks awful to me. The CGI scenes just takes you out of it, regardless of how much heart it has or how much you care about the characters it just takes you out of it.
