The festival season is gearing up and with it comes a film that I’ve been dying to see ever since it set Sundance alight: Lee Daniels’s “Precious.” The film will play the Toronto, New York and Chicago fests, perhaps Telluride (that typically secretive line-up is begging to be revealed slowly in conversations around town).
I stumbled onto this interview with Mariah Carey recently talking about her work in the film. It’s probably old news but I hadn’t seen it yet, so I thought I’d share. Carey will also be a contender for Best Original Song with her track “100%,” featured yesterday in our tune speculation thread.

It’s the Centerpiece at the New York Film Festival too. It’s really getting around.
Ah, right. Thanks.
And the Oscar for Biggest Ego goes to…
Right on Robert.
I thought it was Quentin Tarantino?
She’s a poet with that thing about “diamonds exfoliating her skin” bit. Put some beat to that.
I have a feeling she thinks SHE will be nominated.
The whole interview would include the interviewer asking her how she approached the role and why did she end up getting it after Helen Mirren dropped out. Give her a damn break. Geez.
Say what you will about Mariah, but she goes toe to toe with Monique in her big scene, and is just as good.
Jeremy, is right though. She is great in the film and surprised the hell out of me and shut me up.
Jilpen – Mariah WILL be nominated fyi – for Best Song that is.
