Anyone else…

…feel completely robbed as a basketball fan?  How boring.  You push through the defending champs and the presumed eastern finalists, then can’t even prove that you deserve to be in the series?  Maybe they should change it to the Orlando Tragic.

What’s tragic is how the analysts spent the last month talking about how “through” Derek Fisher looked, then as soon as he hits two big shots, suddenly its “give the ball to Fisher and you get RESULTS!”. Awful sportscasting.

Hmmmm, I could have sworn two of their losses they gave away. But yeah, I didn’t see todays game, but I’d imagine it looked like they quit.

Thank goodness this is over. My city can return to normalcy.

it could have easily been 3-1 magic today. i’m sick of the love affair with Bryant. the NBA and all the sportscasters want so badly for him to be Jordan. and it makes me ill.
the magic had a fantastic run, and i have a feeling they’ll be back in the Finals next year.

If the Magic, Cavs, and Celtics all stay healthy, it should make for one hell of a race in the east.

As Colby said it could very easily have been a 3-1 Magic lead going into today. I don’t think you can just look at the number of games to decide how competitive a series is, for instance a few years back when the Pistons beat the Lakers in 5 they completely dominated that series and really should’ve won the one game they did lose.

The Orlando Tragics barely beat a Boston Celtics team WITHOUT Kevin Garnett. If he had been playing, Orlando would have never made it to the finals. Also, living here in FL has been unbearable with all these Orlando fans that popped out of nowhere and hopped on a bandwagon.

Unbearable fans? Tragic teams? Robbed audiences? And people are charging the TV analysts with hyperbole

No because I’m a Lakers fan.

Despite games 1 and 5 being pretty one-sided, I thought it was a great series. Game 4 was one of the most exciting finals games I’ve seen, and games 2 and 3 were great to watch also. I don’t feel robbed one bit. Would have been nice to have lasted at least one more game though.

No, because now Phil Jackson’s got 10. He’s got pretty much every record now, winning half the championships in the last 19 years. The guy is amazing. Difficult to root for Jackson and against Bryant at the same time, but all in all a great outcome. The Magic didn’t really belong there, though Dwight Howard dismantling Lebron James was incredible.

We all guessed Lakers in six, so five isn’t a huge shocker.

Basketball pretty much sucks though doesn’t it?

Never understood how anyone could value a team sport where a “score” has such a low commodity.

Um, I like hockey — anyone see Pittsburgh win the Cup? Great young team reminds me of Gretzky’s Oilers in the 80’s — could be the makings of a dynasty.

I tuned out of hockey a while ago.

And it’s almost as if Tapley hasn’t watched any of the games. The Magic would still be in this series (maybe have even won) had they converted on their opportunities to win. I don’t feel robbed.

I mean really Kris, did you actually watch the games?

For me, it just didn’t feel like a Finals series.

You said it John. My alleigance is with the NHL all the way. Great finals we had this year, literally coming down to the last second of Game 7! Detroit looked like the better team throughout the series, but it looked like the Pens just wanted it more.

But I’m still skeptical about the possibility of a Pittsburgh dynasty, because if this year’s postseason proved anything, it’s how hard it is to win back-to-back Cups in the post-lockout era.

That is why there is College Basketball, really the best basketball you will get IMO. Though I was rooting for JeBron this year…

Magiv blew 2 games in the finals, they are just a team w/o the experience and Dwight just isnt quite ready yet it seems.

I have absolutely no idea what any of you are talking about — but then, I was watching the Twenty20 cricket world cup this weekend.

I’m with you hockey guys. Hockey is my second religion (to films of course) and Friday’s game 7 was just a fantastic finish to a hell of a year. Now I’m going to go through withdrawal until next season.

Rather than a dynasty type situation, Friday was more of a Rocky/Cinderella type scenario to me…EVERYONE and their mom was certain Detroit was going to take the Cup home again (NHL.com listed an endless stream of predictions from commentators and celebrities and such, of course everyone said Detroit), and we kept hearing how all the odds and past statistics stacked against them. The final, dramatic seconds of that game and the elation that erupted from the Penguins was thrilling.

I don’t know if they’ll be a multi-Cup winning team…I won’t be surprised to see a team that isn’t Pittsburgh or Detroit hoisting the Cup next year.

What are we talking about people?

The FIFA Confederations Cup is starting!

USA is grouped with Brazil AND Italy. Spain has it easy. I think Iraq will make it to the second round too.

As an Orlando magic fan I didn’t expect to go on an award’s page to find someone putting them down. If Orlando is tragic then what would you call the teams they beat on the way to the finals? I really like this site…when it stays on topic.

The game 5 clincher was a yawner, but games 2-4 were all exciting, so it was worth watching. We’ll always have to wonder what would have happened if A) Jameer Nelson had never gotten hurt (the guy was one of the best point guards in the league before the All-Star break), or B) Jameer Nelson had STAYED hurt instead of coming back without being 100% and screwing with the head of the utterly insane Rafer Alston. Oh well.

On the plus side, the NBA Draft is in a week and a half, and the Knicks have a shot at Stephen Curry. There’s always next year …

Lance: Sorry your boys lost. After all, I was pulling for them. I hate the local team here in L.A. But the Tragic defined “choke” like no other team I’ve seen in a while. They got scared. And it made for a painful, boring conclusion to the NBA finals, in my opinion. Even the close games were snoozes since they pretty much threw in the towel in overtime.

By the way, the topic is what I or Guy or Gerard or Chad or John say it is. If you don’t like it, feel free to mosey on to one of our numerous other posts. I really like commenters…when they don’t try to tell us how to run things.

It’s mostly about match ups. Orlando finally met a team that matched up well with them and were peaking at the right time. They’ll probably be back. I did hope for 7 games though.

Hmm, if you consider an overtime game a snooze you may have had unreasonable expectations. Sure LA won both overtimes pretty handily, but as a basketball fan looking for a good game, I don’t think you can ask for more than a finals game going to overtime, let alone 2 in the same series.

Kris – I didn’t mean to sound like I was telling you how to run things. I think all of you do an awesome job on here and I know all the hard work you put into this site. I really appreciate it – just giving you my feedback.

To just clarify what I was trying to say – I think making sure that you stay on one topic will ensure the quality that you’ve already achieved on this site – just my opinion – you can take it or leave it.
