From an interview with Christian Bale in the new issue of Total Film:
I’m not making any excuses, but there is an essential trust and it’s not a tacit one, which is every sound guy says, ‘We are not only not recording, we are not even listening.’ So, well, there goes that.
I just don’t think it’s in anyone’s interest to know that much either. I’m actually someone that’s very anti the whole B-Rolls, DVD extras and stuff like that.
I understand people are interested, I get that they want to hear about it, but to me I look at it as old school movie magic and with magic you do not reveal your secrets.
The man has a point; as repelled as I was by his on-set behaviour, it’s really not an incident of which I should have been aware. We’re all arseholes on occasion, but most of us don’t have those occasions broadcast to the entire world.
Ahem. Anyway, if that doesn’t sound like the final word on the whole unfortunate affair, I don’t know what does.

Yeah, I hope we can finally put this shit behind us. There are much, much bigger pricks in Hollywood anyway. Haha.
Let’s hope that is the end of the whole thing. I’m really tired of people making a big deal about it. He went overboard, it happens. Just shows that he’s a human. People make it out to be like every actor is perfect and never loses it or something. Christ.
People get way too into the whole “shaming” business when it comes to celebrities and incidents like this.
I like Bale. I thought he was out of line. I doubt that one incident is an accurate reflection on his entire personality (of which the public knows very little).
I can barely mention him to any of my non-film-obsessed friends (i.e. all of them) these days without them going, “Isn’t that the guy who beat up his own mother!?” Media, I shake my fist!
It does take a particular kind of asshole to take an abusive, childish workplace rant and chalk it up to “old school movie magic.” What a total prick.
Joe, I agree. He’s a prick not just for his rant but for making excuses for it. I don’t hate the man but the whole Christian Bale is God mentality makes me shake my head. Very few actors (and I’m talking males here because an actress would never be given a pass for such behavior in the eyes of the media and public) can do what he did and get people to feel sorry for him.
he’s not making excuses for anything, he admits he’s in the wrong in the interview. cut the guy some slack for god’s sake.
No
i think actors lose it on the set a lot, it’s just that there’s an industry “code” that doesn’t air this to the media that is similar to sports writers protecting the interest of personal things with athletes. it’ s this particular clip that was exposed to the public that created a stir.
