Why does this project look like an absolute failure waiting to happen? And strangely, only Penn seems to fit here. Del Toro really doesn’t work for me in the role of Moe and there’s something, I don’t know…off about Carrey as Curly, but we’ll see what they come up with.
Variety reports the casting news here. Brad from Rope of Silicon has slapped together a nice Photoshopped image of the actors in character here:

I don´t agree. I can perfectly see this 3 having a lot of fun and amusing us. And by the way, the Oscar did wonders for Sean Penn. One movie after another…
I don’t know, I really like the casting. Each actor has shown to be able to hold their own in front of the camera and I have a love for predominantly serious actors being thrown into comedies (Dr. Strangelove, Airplane, In Bruges etc.).
Also, I heard Carrey is currently working on gaining 40 lbs. for the role…should be interesting to see how he ends up.
As far as it being a success or disaster…like every director, critic and film blogger have said time and time again: How’s the script?
Good fucking Christ this is a horrible idea.
I enjoy Jim Carrey, but I feel he is to self-referencial to ever be taken seriously as an actor. You know you’re watching a performance when you see a Jim Carrey movie, it’s very emotionally detatched.
…Eternal. Sunshine. of the. Spotless. Mind.
Even The Truman Show is full of humanity.
Though, I would totally agree that a fucking Three Stooges movie by the FARRELLY BROTHERS is going to be very emotionally detached, regardless of how many good actors they inject into it.
Eternal Sunshine is probably the only major Carrey movie I haven’t seen, and I’m a fan of Charlie Kaufman, so I should check it out.
Unlike Penn and Del Toro, perhaps Mr. Carrey only works at his best with talented writers and directors, which he isn’t likely to have here.
And I stand by what I said. Carrey’s projects are, for the most part, border-line metafiction. (I suppose that was deliberate in The Truman Show).
That looks more like Matthew Fox than Carrey.
HA! I thought the same thing^
But yeah… yikes!
Russell Crowe would be ideal…he’s almost already a stooge…
Well, at least it’s not a biopic.
But what is this film for? Who on earth would want to see it?
It’s completely unnecessary and won’t be very good. The studio is better off casting Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell and Jim Carrey and make this a big, dumb Dennis Dugan movie that will make a lot of money. Unless the script is masterful it will be a complete failure.
I thought Johhny Depp was attached to Moe?
@Guy: Exactly. Why is this even being made? Can I at least hear someone from the target demographic?
let x be the audience age in years.
12 years>x<80 years
seriously guys…you think this will be a box office failure? No, with a cast like that, big bucks are in store. And if these three guys have signed on (especially Penn), the script must be good.
Yeah, all I need to hear is Del Toro and Penn, and that alone makes the movie very promising.
Dang, should have said something other than very promising.
