Judd Apatow’s ‘Funny People’

Posted by · 6:51 am · February 21st, 2009

Before we really dig into net year’s Oscar race on Monday, what about the new Judd Apatow comedy “Funny People” starring Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen.  Could the multi-hyphenate finally find some love from the writers’ branch, maybe?  Acknowledgment for Leslie Mann’s antics, maybe?  Anything outside of HFPA?

It looks like a terrific movie. I think there could be something for Sandler here. Hey, when he’s good, he’s great.

And maybe Janusz Kaminski for cinematography? That’s probably wishful thinking, but still…

Seth Rogen needs to get his bear back ASAP, he looks like Colin Firth…it’s even worse on the poster…

I’m a bit pissed they didn’t put Aziz in the trailer.

Did Seth Rogen thank Eric Bana for getting him laid in Knocked Up?

I think this is going to be a great movie. Everything that Seth Rogan does makes me laugh, and I especially loved him in Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and I totally agree with the EverHype review (www.everhype.com/?utm_source=bc) that gave the movie 4 stars and called it “Great.” I think that this cast looks like the best of today’s comedy troop.

Kris, I’ve read the script for this, and if Apatow nailed the execution, I wouldn’t be surprised by a Picture nom, possibly tossing on a Screenplay nom and a couple of acting noms. I don’t think he’ll be strong enough to land a director nomination, though.

This time actually seeing the trailer:
This movie depends on the handling of Leslie Mann’s character and what happens to her.
