The last time Taraji P. Henson was on Oscar’s stage

I was inspired to hunt this clip down after that Three 6 Mafia item I mentioned yesterday.  Eesh, remember the awful scene recreations for the original song contenders that year?  Ouch.  Anyway, maybe Taraji will grace the stage on different auspices this year.  For now, this is what we’ve got:

My guess is this will get yanked soon enough.  The Academy is pretty stingy with its content.

If she can sell that last note — in that audience, and to all those viewers — Taraji P. Henson can do anything. Liked the prescient applause shot of Amy Adams, too.

I realized I’m jumping years, but to think this song actually won, while Springsteen’s “Wrestler” doesn’t even get nominated. Makes me sad that I live in a world where that happens. How can anyone ever explain that that?

Also, while hilarious, Stewart’s comment afterward was sad beyond words. “If you’re keeping count at home, that’s Three Six Mafia – one, Martin Scorsese – o (remember this was before Departed).

I say the best thing to do is to abolish the Academy completely, and just let all of the critics submit ballots. The Academy is becoming so in the minority on just about everything these days I don’t see how people can still allow it to exist.

To be fair, Scott, while they didn’t nominate Springsteen, they did nominate MIA, which is pretty progressive.

As has been said before, it seems “The Wrestler” simply got slighted because it appears over a black screen, which obviously didn’t impress them much when they were judging the songs in context. I think it’s stupid of them, but c’est la vie.

And Stewart’s remark was funny, but flippant — it’s not as if Three 6 Mafia won for Best Director!

True Guy, but I still think quality should reign far superior to progression. And you’re right about Mafia’s win not being a major one, but still, it is a statuette none the less, which at the time, Marty didn’t have.
