Putting a bow on the Bale dust-up

Christian Bale in American PsychoIf you’ve paid attention the last 24 hours, you’re well aware of the Christian Bale F-bomb tirade.  And if you haven’t made yourself familiar with the techno remix of same, do yourself a favor…now.

Well “Terminator Salvation” assistant director Bruce Franklin (called out by name in the recording: “Shut the f— up, Bruce!”) has spoken to E! Online about the incident, giving what I feel to be a level-headed assessment of something like this, even if it was a bit overblown on Bale’s part.  Franklin says:

“If you are working in a very intense scene and someone takes you out of your groove…but was the most emotional scene in the movie,” said Franklin. “And for him to get stopped in the middle of it. He is very intensely involved in his character. He didn’t walk around like that all day long. It was just a moment and it passed.”

“This was my second movie with Christian and it has always been a good experience with him,” added Franklin, who also worked with the actor on 2000’s Shaft. “He is so dedicated to the craft. I think someone is begging to make some noise about this but I don’t think it’s fair. The art of acting is not paint by numbers, it’s an art form.”

Well, it’s been a nice diversion in this slow news week.  Moving on…

There really was no excuse for a blowup like that. There’s always a level of professionalism, and Bale was way over the line.

previously i would have totally agreed with you and everyone else Hardy, but since this whole thing blew up I can’t help but feel like we don’t know what we’re talking about. clearly this wasn’t an ideal reaction or whatever and does come off extremely unprofessional, but we have no idea what was happening on the set that day.

perhaps Bale just doesn’t possess the consumate professionalism of Huey Lewis and the News

If a woman acted that way…she be done.

I love Bale’s work, but even for an intense actor…he needs to maintain some self control.

I think this goes over the line.

    Wayne: “They’ve crossed the line.”
Alfred: “You crossed the line first, sir. You squeezed them, you handled them, and in their desperation they turned to a [certain TMZ.com] they didn’t fully understand.”

LOL. Of course I feel bad for all parties involved. This was a private matter that should not have leaked to the public. Nevertheless, as someone above already stated, there is no reason Bale should have flipped out like that. He sounds like a diva.

Seriously, people…why do yall care? He’s a great actor, that’s all that matters. It’s no business of ours to judge him based on that video. And I think it’s pathetic that people are criticizing Knowles for sticking up for the guy. None of us have any idea what the actual circumstances were because WE WERE NOT THERE. All you bloggers are doing is proving just how fucked up this celebrity culture has become. That DP was egging him on, not to mention obviously unprofessional himself. Guess who’s going to suffer from this? That’s right…Hurlburt. He won’t be able to get a decent job anymore, and Bale? Filmmakers don’t care about occasionally surly attitudes (just look at Ridley and Crowe), he’s going to continue getting roles.
