Replace the statuettes in their hands with two Oscars, and no, you can’t.

If they win and Slumdog pulls the same trick at the Oscars like they did last night it’ll be the coolest Oscars ever!

Yes, you can ask for more: An Oscar nomination for Darren Aronofsky.

Yes, Kate Winslet winning two awards…oh wait.

    :D

Wow — so often the HFPA blows it — not this year, they got it right — though I do not beliee “Slumdog Millionaire” is the best film of the year, it was terrific to see the little film that could win the big prize — are there any more doubters that Heath has the Oscar in the bag??? — and the great Kate, best actress for “Revoltuionary Road” — how just, how perfect…

So, indeed Patrick. Can Winslet pull another double whammy?

I’m surprised and happy for Rourke. I was starting to lose hope for him, with Penn and Eastwood both looming. Milk doesn’t personally do it for me. Eastwood’s great. But this year should be Rourke’s. And I’m not surprised for Springstein but I am happy. To my ear Original Song should be one of the easier calls.

I’d still just like to see somebody stop Slumdog. I’m never one to root for the front runner and that’s not Slumdog’s fault. But this sweep makes no sense to me. It’s a cute film but it’s not the Best Picture of the year. It wouldn’t be an awful choice but a win for Screenplay and possibly original score, and some nominations seems more appropriate. A critics circle virtual sweep? Now I’m starting to root for it go down just on principle.

“it’s not the Best Picture of the year”

    Yeah it is.

OK, so “Slumdog Millionaire” may not be the very best film of the year for me, but c’mon — doesn’t anyone else get a bit of a thrill seeing an independent film about Mumbai streetkids, with not one household name in it, trumping the Hollywood establishment this awards season?

I mean, who ever really thought Danny Boyle would be embraced by major awards bodies? It’s a pretty fantastic state of affairs, if you ask me.

Let’s not get complacent, people… what’s happening here is pretty miraculous, whether you like the film or not.

Jai Ho song from slumdog is very unique, i have never heard something like that before, hope it wins best song at oscars.

Nix: If you were that impressed by it, you should get into Bollywood cinema. A world awaits you.

Guy, just because it comes outside of the establishment, does not mean it deserves to win, just like Winslet winning Best Supporting Actress because she was snubbed years earlier is also wrong.

The Wrestler is the best film of the year, and Aronofsky is just as much an outsider as Boyle is.

James D: I’m not saying it deserves to win because it’s it’s from outside the establishment. I’m simply saying that if (okay, when) it wins the Oscar, it’ll be a refreshing choice. (To me, at least.)

As I said, given the choice of any film, it wouldn’t be my ideal pick for Best Picture. But I’m happy to back it.

More love for Benjamin, less for Slumdog.
