I have a second wave of confidence in Vera Farmiga. All she needs is for Doubt to fail to connect and she could steal Davis’s assumed spot.
It’s a little unlikely at this point, but I can honestly see her sneaking in. The Academy loves satisfying films such as this (think Michael Clayton or Blood Diamond–political thrillers of the like), so a potent performance like Vera’s would be their way of recognizing.
