When ‘W.’ met Laura

I have to say, Josh Brolin isn’t nearly as convincing in this CNN exclusive clip of Oliver Stone’s upcoming “W.” as he has been in the other stuff we’ve seen:

Agreed. But with that kind of sledgehammer-subtle writing, I don’t blame him for not looking entirely sure how to play it.

Really? I’m in complete disagreement. This is easily Brolin’s and the movie’s best outing so far. Nice to finally get an idea just what sorta tone the film is going to take.

Given that it’s portrayals of George W. and Laura, coupled with all of the baggage in tow, I’m quite impressed with what both actors have pulled off here. Brolin and Banks actually come across as human beings.

This does so much more to spark my interest in this movie than the teaser and posters have. It’s definitely a good scene.

And I must say, Elizabeth Banks is so goddamn adorable.

For my money, it works better on screen than it did in the script. I like the bit where he goes to get some more chips in mid-conversation.

Given all the clips/trailers that have come out in the past month or so this is starting to look a bit better than most people probably had been anticipating.

Josh Brolin may not look Bush, but he sure speaks him.

Yeah he captures the spirit of him, just as Hopkins did in NIXON. I think it’s the best way. Even a brilliant impersonation would have turned this into sketch comedy.

Banks may land a supporting nom.
