Funniest part of ‘Inglorious Bastards’ so far

Poor Tarantino keeps mistaking “mein Fuhrer” for “mine Fuhrer,” in addition to all the other 4th grade-level typos.  Maybe Jeff Wells is right about the “borderline illiterate” thing.  But Vulture really should have included this follow-up gem of a retarded segment in their recent reaction to the Nazi scalps bit:

Excerpt from Quentin Tarantino\'s Inglorious Bastards

Gold for the gold, QT.  Oh, and Adolf Hitler (yes, that Adolf Hitler) is reading on the page like Kim Jong-il in “Team America.”

Try to stay open minded…that’s what I have to keep telling myself.

I just downloaded the whole thing too. Might get around to it later this weekend, but it sure is some funny stuff, but no masterpiece for sure.

Man…you are like the biggest QT hater on the web

Given that he’s a high-school dropout, I think he’s doing pretty well. I’m much more disdainful of those with Master’s degrees who still can’t spell. I dunno if this will be the next Pulp Fiction, but hey, we can dream.

I can take or leave QT but whether or not he can spell doesn’t mean a damn thing to me. I only care about what the man puts up on the screen. Funny that you quote Wells because your rant reminds me of his usual pettiness. Definitely not a good thing.

    The real Kris Tapley: Lately…yes.

Sorry to hurt so many feelings with this post though.

This script is wonderful. It’s filled to the brim with absolutely riveting set pieces. There is a tremendous amount of potential here.

I don’t get the hate. Whatever.

One thing I find extremely interesting. I don’t remember anyone crumbing on Quentin’s scripts for Pulp Fiction, Dogs, and Jackie, scripts that were filled with the same kind of “lazy, illiterate” writing.

    Why is that Kris?

Kris, I forgot to add: do you really believe that Quentin doesn’t know how to read, like you’re theorizing above?

I don’t think Kris perse dislikes the content but more its presentation.

Nothing lazy or illiterate about the Pulp Fiction script I’ve read. But then, I was 13 in 1994. Not exactly writing about film and being in a position to catch scripts before they went into production.

As for your last question, Goodvibe61, I have only what was in front of me to go on. And my guess is the guy doesn’t much care for the difference between “their” and “they’re” enough to get it right. And one of his own former colleagues (granted, a guy that had his ass kicked by QT in a Los Angeles restaurant), says he would be surprised if it was any sort of “put on.”

But we disagree completely on what makes for a “riveting” set piece, apparently.

Here’s a typical passage in the Pulp script: Very first scene of the film, Pumpkin and HB in the diner:

” The Young Woman scans the restaurant with this new information. She sees all the PATRONS eating, lost in conversations. The tires WAITRESS, taking orders. The BUSBOYS going through the motions, collecting dishes. The MANAGER complaining to the COOK about something. A smiles breaks out on the Young Woman’s face.”

    Oscar winner.
