But that said, my next choice is “Down to Earth”.

the one that deserves it — isn’t even nominated — Can I have this dance from HSM3, Beyonce’s song Once in a lifetime from Cadillac Records.

Jai Ho will win, this is the surest bet at the oscars.

I haven’t seen Slumdog yet so I don’t know how those songs function in the film but “Jai-Ho” is currently my favorite to listen to.

“Down to Earth” from “WALL-E,” hands down. A beautifully spirited song that not only comments on the movie but serves a sort of epilogue to the film’s events. Chalk another one up for the robot.

Of course looking at the title – “Who Deserves it?” – opens to the door to what others have said about Springsteen. But I’ll ditto what Speaking English said; “Down to Earth” is my favorite of the bunch.

Down to Earth from WALL-E deserves it and would even if that overhyped Wrestler song *was* nominated, which I’m very glad to see it wasn’t.

Personally I think “O…Saya” is far and away the best choice out of this group, yet it’s pulling up the rear. C’est la vie.

Of course, the deserving songs aren’t nominees. However, I feel that what has happened in the sidebar so far, as well as past two years, will recur come Oscar night: “O, Saya” and “Jaiho” will split votes and open the door for “Down to Earth”.

And, just settle this for me, is it Jaiho or Jai Ho? I can never tell.

Is it possible you can put up the results of the past polls?

“O… Saya” is the best of this bunch by a mile.

I still think “Jai Ho” is going to win. I really don’t think “O… Saya” (too electronic, too edgy for the Academy) is going to pull too many votes from “Jai Ho.” So many people love that number in the train station, so I think it’ll win for that.

There is a very fine line. A VERY fine line. Yes, “The Wrestler” is an amazingly good song. However, it did nothing for the film. The Oscars are about films and what makes them great, a song in the credits? Yes, two songs nominated are credit songs, but those are different. Why? WALL-E’s credits continue the story and Slumdog Millionaire’s are a tribute to Indian culture. Should “The Wreslter” really have been nominated over all but the credit song from High School Musical 3? No. Should it have been nominated over “Dracula’s Lament”? No. Should it have been nominated over “Rock Me Sexy Jesus”? No. Nominated over “The Call”? No.

Sometimes the best place for a song is at the end, after you’ve watched the drama unfold. As “The Wrestler” sits on black and Springsteen’s opening verse kicks in, it has a much more defining impact than if it had simply been laced into some arbitrary montage within the film.

    That’s all I’m saying.

“O…Saya” most definitely, but the other two are quite wonderful as well.

Down to Earth is by far the blandest choice so it’ll probably win, as evidenced by this poll. Most people wouldn’t know good music if it spat in their face.

The only song that deserves the Oscar is “The Wrestler.” But I can live with “O… Saya” taking it.

Most don’t know subjectivity, either, or condescension. I guess you’re the bearer of all truths, huh?

Wow, I’m an idiot. Didn’t see the Polls Archive right under the darn poll.

    Whoops.

I like Down to Earth the most and I think it wins for several reasons. It has Peter Gabriel and Thomas Newman involved and it’d be a great tribute to WALL-E (it should win some awards other than animated). And of course, Slumdog has two nominated songs, which isn’t a problem usually, but could be here, because Jai Ho has lots of fans, but O Saya is considered more crucial by others. And it could lead to a split and WALL-E could very well emerge the victor.

  25. Glenn Avatar

Just seeing M.I.A. on stage performing “O… Saya” will be amazing. It’s definitely the best of the nominees though even though I don’t really get what it’s on about. However, I fear people won’t vote for it because they can’t actually remember it from the movie.

If you think Wall E song is the best then that shows your music sense (or lack of it)
