I love how much Commissioner Gordon detail Hingle offers up in this clip, which I believe is from the 2005 special edition DVD release of “Batman.” Especially considering none of that background was really utilized in Tim Burton’s film. Anyway, he will be missed. It’s a shame most one-off obits have paid strict attention to his “Batman” roles, ignoring wonderful work in films like “Hang ‘Em High,” but I suppose Gordon will be the most memorable role for most.

It’s such a shame that they did not treat Gordon the way he should have been treated in the Burton/Schumacher movies. He was decent in B89, but they turned him into a buffoon in Batman Returns and a complete joke in the other two sequels. Hingle was a damn good actor and they really didn’t give him much to work with in that role, unfortunately.
