Thanks for waiting

Sorry for ducking out yesterday — it was a Saturday of multiple distractions. Normal service to resume shortly.

In the meantime, for your listening pleasure, here’s “O… Saya,” the sensational A.R. Rahman/M.I.A. cut from the “Slumdog Millionaire” soundtrack. It won’t get anywhere near Oscar night, of course — though I’m brazenly predicting that the film’s exuberant Bollywood-inspired closer, “Jai Ho,” will not only be nominated for Best Original Song, but will win.

Still, close your eyes, listen to this and imagine M.I.A. on the Kodak stage instead of, say, Miley Cyrus or  whatever drek they choose to nominate instead.

It is indeed sensational, as are M.I.A and Rahman. My anticipation for the film grows by the day. But come now, it’s a tad unfair to call Jennifer Hudson a ‘drek’, is it not?

Not in my opinion. Superb voice, sure, but her music is just more of the same chintzy, overproduced faux-soul that we’ve heard a million times before — and that “Sex and the City” cut is truly horrible.

Just remembered that this is not a tactful time to be unkind about Jennifer Hudson, so deleted the reference. Thanks for bringing that to my attention, PJ.

I think the best tracks on the albums are track #8 Latika’s Theme and Track #12 Dreams On Fire which is a song version of Latika’s Theme.

Track #9 Aaj Ki Raat is also excellent. Its actually the remixed version of a very popular Bollywood song.

The thought of Miley Cyrus getting an Oscar nomination makes me want to throw up.

Miley won’t be nominated nor accept it. She’s not the writer.

Oh, but she is, Jonathan. Cyrus co-wrote the “Bolt” song with Jeffrey Steele.
